Great roads to drive your 'Vette in North Georgia

I took another drive to the North Georgia mountains today. Yesterday I started too late and did not prepare the trip at all. It basically just whetted my appetite for another drive. This time I prepped better and made a plan of sorts.
I decided to visit a couple of state parks, take photographs, and do some touring/driving. I went North on GA400 and veered left towards Dahlonega on US19.GA60.
After leaving Dahlonega going North on US19/129 the fun soon started as the roads are very nicely maintained, very twisty and the traffic was light.
I drove on this outstanding road up to Vogel State Park where GA180 turns left (west) towards Suches.
The park is very nice with a beautiful lake and sand beach, great accommodations and a staffed welcome center. I took a nice swim and laid out in the sun for a bit. The beach was almost empty. What a beautiful day! I took some good photos of the Trahlyta lake falls and the surrounding area. Then I went to a little country store where they had some wonderful locally grown apples and other fruits. The apples were great! small and very sweet.

Back to the driving again, this time on GA180 going West from US19/129. This road is very much like the famous "Tail of the Dragon" in NC/TN. The difference is that is a shorter ride, but very well worth it specially in a nice sports car :D. This road takes you to the Wnifield Scott lake and rec area which is another beautiful spot to picnic, swim, fish or camp. After more pictures and a little rest and leg stretching, I hit the road again and followed it to its end on GA60. This is yet another outstanding curvy mountain road in either direction.

I went back and forth on GA180 enjoying throughly the handling, brakes and power of my Z51 :thumbsup: I wrapped up the day by picnicking in a little secluded spot by a mountain stream with some first class sushi I bought in Atlanta and kept in a cooler, yummy!

While I was driving on GA180, I took a little video with my iphone. Just to give you an idea of the quality of these roads!

So tomorrow morning I'm off to Norther Corvette to see about getting my differential fixed.

I had a couple questions regarding brake line armor. My rear TA hard lines currently have no armor on them. I'm probably going to replace them and was curious if having armor is a huge requirement or just a "nice to have". I see the ones on Ecklers site don't have them but have seen some eBay ones with armor.

Currently only 1 of my TAs is in good condition but will probably replace it anyway just so I can start off my ownership of this car with TA that are of the same condition. I've seen some places like this http://vtechcorvette.com/ that advertise a rebuilt TA for $275 + 200 for core. That seems awfully cheap considering Ecklers wants $430 for their rebuilt. It says that is has SS pbrake and other new parts with cleaned refurb other. Is there something fishy going on or is it just a heck of a deal? I've seen a few rebuilders of TA on eBay that could ship now, but I'm wary. I'm not necessarily trying to be cheap but stretch my budget.

Since I'm getting a new differential, I was curious as to what most "cruisers" use. I'm not that big into burning my tires, just cruising and looking nice. :thumbsup: So I was thinking of something like a 3:08. Part of my reasoning is that since the car was changed from a stick to auto, I haven't tried looking yet to see what kind of tranny the guy put in there. So I don't want to be cruising at 70mpg with huge rpm's because there a 4:33 back there. I like the idea of lower rpms putting less stress on the whole system over the years.

hell that day :laughing:

i was ready to test my car with 150 shot of nitrous but look what's happen i was on my way to the dyno shop and when i parked out side the dyno shop i hear cracking sound coming from my engine and i suggest it's a crank sound i ask 2 guys abut the sound and all of them says the same :thumbsup:

am not really sad but unlucky cuz it was waiting to see the number with the 150 shot :D

now lets see what can i do to reborn the z06 again

am thinking to go up with LSX 454CID any advice any ideas suggestions am ready to learn and know more abut the car

will change the gear what's best advices am waiting for u guys and lets see what do u have ;)

One of the buildings I work in overlooks the runways that NASA in Houston uses. This afternoon I saw the Guppy doing touch and go landings. Every time it would take off, I thought there is no way that thing flies! They were doing the touch and go most of the afternoon but it never got old watching it.

in the process of rebuilding the trailinf arms , the local vette man sugest that i install grease fittings on the bearing hubs, showed me a vette that he had done several years ago looks doable , has any one done this ? if so what size drill and tap is needed any advise , lets talk

New Owner Seeking Advice

Hello,

I am the proud owner of a new-to-me C5. It's been a lifelong dream of mine (I'm 40) to own a corvette and I was recently able to purchase one at a great price from a relative. (Also a DC member).

I have a technical question that I hope someone here can answer. First a little about the car:

It is a 2001 C5. It's got Kooks headers,LG Motorsports G5X3 cam kit, Roll Master double roller timing chain,ASP Under drive pulley kit, 160 degree thermostat, Comp Cams 921 spring kit, Ported oil pump, aftermarket brake calipers/rotors, C6 Exhaust, X-Pipe, high flow cats, custom leather seats, aftermarket rims/tires, aftermarket cowl induction hood, and only 46k on the odometer. Also, its a six speed manual transmission.

Now the problem:

I bought it in Virginia and drove it back to Maine today. About 14 hours in the car so I was really able to get a feel for it. I was told by the PO that it was dyno'd at 400 rwhp and it really feels like it. I've never owned a car like this or driven anything remotely this strong. It's very very torquey and does not want to go slow.

The issue comes when I and coming rolling up to a stop. I'll depress the clutch and shift into first gear (for examle when waiting for a light to turn green). At that point, the tachometer will do one of three things. 1. it may instantly settle out at about 900 RPM and idle fine or; 2. it may settle out at about 2000 rpm and stay there idling (in which case I have to rev the engine to get it to come back down to a 900 rpm idle or; 3. the idle will fluctuate between 400 rpm and 1200 rpm several times (sometimes ending in a stall), until it finally settles out at 900 rpm.

I was told by the PO that it was programmed to have a high idle because the cam would lope so much as to make it stall. Oh, BTW, the problem seems to be exagerrated when the air conditioner is on.

It makes it difficult to drive this car because I'm always worried about it stalling or I'll end up trying to drive away with the RPM starting at 2000. I have driven clutch cars for years and I assure you that it's not the driver :)

Does anyone have any ideas? This car is in fantastic condition and was well taken care of. It was not beat up.
