That's right boys and girls, The Junkman has went and made paint correction so easy, a caveman could do it! In the following videos, I cover the entire process from start to finish. The first two videos are worth their weight in gold for the information alone. I don't even start working on the paint until the third video but the amount of information I cover in the first two videos is priceless. Do NOT skip through them!

If you have ever been apprehensive about using a machine to rid your paint of scratches and swirls, you will definitely not be worried after watching this video series. I break it down to a level where a 10 year old can watch these videos and start fixing paint. The supplies and equipment that I use are readily available in the USA and abroad (for the most part). If you have a serious desire to finally fix your paint and about 1 hour and 54 minutes, then this video series is totally for you. After you have watched this series, you will not believe how easy I have made this.

Part 1 - Hey boys and girls! Finally, a video series that takes the process of paint correction from the beginning to the end (from claying to waxing). Although I do not apply any wax at the end, I cover everything else in detail. This series is 1 hour and 54 minutes long so that should give you an idea as to how much detail I go into.

In this first video, I talk in detail about exactly what paint correction is. I also go into detail about the polishing technique you should use as well as the best product on the market that you should buy. I cover other topics too so just sit back and kick up your feet. This video is 15 minutes and 7 seconds long.​





Part 2 - In this video, I go into detail about exactly what I use to remove the paint damage within this video series. I name and visually show every piece of equipment as well as all of the products necessary to do paint correction. In some cases, I even offer up a location where you can find the products that I use. I talk about why I chose to use the products that I use as well as what I don't use. If you want a list of these items, WATCH THIS VIDEO.​





Part 3 - Okay, in this video I identify the damage that we are going to repair. I even go as far to create some damage just to ensure that my paint will be more jacked up than your paint. I then go into detail about claying, and what it does for your finish. Last of all, I show how to assemble the PC-7424XP so that we can start the polishing process. The video following this video will be in high definition so that you can clearly see the damage and the effectiveness of my repair.​





Part 4 - Because I wanted the viewers of this video to be able to see the results of the work that I did in high detail, I uploaded this video in high definition. That took 12 hours!

In this video, I actually go into the proper technique for polishing with the PC-7424XP, showing me using the machine properly. I show the polishes that I use, the pads that each polish is used on, how to work the polisher and how much polish should be used. I also talk about the importance of not using too much polish and clogging up the pores in the pads, which makes the whole process worthless. I go into the discussion of how long to work a polish and when to stop (after a polish flashes). I show which order the polishes are used and explain why you use them in that order.

One thing that I stress in this video is the importance of a solid technique. I talk about and show the technique that I use, as well as how to ensure that you are developing a solid technique. As I say often in this video series, "Technique trumps product 365, 24/7. No matter who's polishes you decide to use, none of them will work worth a darn if your technique sucks. Technique rules!​





Conclusion - I recap my process and allow you into my mindset concerning paint correction and caring for your paint.​

I watched whole thing. I'm not too confident on anything with car fixing, but I think I can do this.

A few weeks ago, after a track day, I saw young kids jumping around on the street with "Car Wash" sign, so I thought I would help those kids.
They made not 'swirl marks', but huge scratches all over the paint.
I wouldn't lie - some bad thoughts went through my mind, but I drove away,, with heartache...

I almost thought of driving my vette down to KY and go on a strike in Louisville until Junkman agrees to fix my paint. (I have an operation down in KY so I go there at least every other month)

With this video, I think I will give myself a challenge during the winter months. My last track day is 10/27 so after that, I'll do 2-bucket-wash and take times to do whole car.

One quick question though: If I wash my car on, say,,, 11/03, and do half of the hood that day, and I want to start the second half on next weekend, do I have to wash the whole car again? I mean,, it would be collecting dust in the garage. Should I put car cover on right after I'm done? Or do I just do 'dust removal'? (honestly, I haven't watched that video yet - I just saw you mention that video)

P.S.: I learned so much from the video but one of the most shocking thing I learned was that Junkman works in Computer network field?? I always thought Junkman was an owner of either a detail shop or Adam's product distributor or something similar.
Maybe I should really stop by Louisville sometime and have some bourbon with you to learn more about you. (and maybe talk about Corvettes too...)

That's fine, but bring your own hotties. I don't share any of mine. :D

What you want to do is just cover the car up after you're done for the day. That would be safer than doing the dust removal. Remember, anytime that you can avoid touching your paint is better for the paint. So covering it up when you finish for the day is better than doing any dust removal and much quicker than washing.

Developing detailing skills

Well, I've received some of the products I'll need to work on my Z06. I got the juice, towels, and still waiting on the machine and pads. In the meantime, I thought I'd practice cleaning first.

So I picked my daily driver, a 2010 Kia Forte. Believe it or not my daughter has been in 3 accidents with this car. The finish felt like sand paper, even though it looks OK.

I'm using the clay that comes with my Adams kit. BTW, for all of you detailing buffs, you can buy all the clay you'll ever need from Michaels Arts and Crafts store. :thumbsup: Your ladies will know where the place is.

Here is the car before/after day 1 of claying the finish . . . it also feels alot smoother, but not new car smooth!

Junkman going to pick up my first vette, a 2001 coupe, this week. I watched the video very informative can you tell me where I can get the detailed spray concentrate? I've got some work to do this winter. Thx!

This Summer, I'm going to watch your entire collection Junkman. Last summer, I dove head-first into paint correction, but things didn't turn out as I'd hoped. :D I purchased some of the Adams products, but they didn't get the job done. I eventually brought some stuff that was a bit more hard-core, but I still couldn't remove a great deal of the swirls.

One day while applying some wax on the trunk area, I didn't notice that a small piece of debris had gotten trapped in the rag that I was usning to apply the wax. Yep, scratched the entire area...only surface scratches though. I tried using the PC to remove the scratches with "no joy". I eventually took the car to a body shop where I had a friend used his Rotary and very light grade of sandpaper, which brought back the original show-room depth, clarity and shine.

I plan to have the whole car done Professionally this summer, then use my PC to maintain the finish.

Sounds like your process lacked one very important thing: technique. You could use 40 grit sandpaper in a bottle and not remove one scratch if your technique is flawed. If I can remove the scratches that I put in my hood from dancing on it, your scratches don't stand a chance with a solid technique. The videos show it all. ;)

:laughing: I had been doing a lot of research on detailing, including looking over some of the stuff you put up, along with some other professional detailing sites. My car is an 06', and it had never been polished before with a buffer, plus had sat out in the weather for a long time before I purchased it. It does have a nice shiny appearance, but up close and personal, you can see the the water spots that lay below.

I also didn't spend enough time polishing, the first few times I polished it, so I made it a point to take my time in and really work the "products" in. I do have a lot of experience with the PC, but perhaps what's needed for this job is the Rotary. I watched the guy at the body shop with the Rotary and sandpaper,.. in less than 30 mins, the paint was flawless. Though it didn't have that great shine since the only thing he did was polish it.

Some suggested that the paint needed a chemical wash to help release the "metals", since it sat so long...probably around sprinkler systems.

Either way, your tutorials will be a big help and I'll be using them as a guide this Summer. :thumbsup:

Do you have a collection of Tutorials on DVD for sale? That way I don't have to worry about internet and I can study them while travelling.

You are correct! I didn't think about what I was saying as I was typing. Wax is indeed the protectant, and I didn't get into really learning about "True" car detailing until early last year.

The paint did look good, though he definitely didn't completed the process. He actually wasn't supposed to do any polishing since I didn't have any bodywork done at the shop. He was bascially doing me a favor.. I just wanted those hideous scratches out.

The paint on the car is actually in great shape. When people find out it's an '06, they ask about the paint and are always in awe when they find out it's the original paint. But as the owner, I'm looking at the paint from just inches away trying to find flaws. :laughing:

I had always gotten an iffy feeling about the chemical wash, so I didn't purchase the kit, but some of the guys who recommended it have been professional detailers for decades and often work on hi-end luxury cars, so I do respect their opinions, but after seeing the rotary and sand paper get everything out of the paint, I knew the chemical wash wasn't needed. You are right in that it just takes a bit more work.

I'll just download the vids you have and do some serious studying! :thumbsup:

In this business, the learning never stops. I probably learn something every time I turn on a buffer. So don't allow the years of experience be your only gauge. Listen to the person you're seeking advice from and ask yourself, "Did he explain what he said in a manner that left me no doubt as to what he was talking about?" I've sen guys with 25+ years of experience doing it wrong for 25+ years. You know the saying, "perfect practice makes perfect." :thumbsup:
