Make sure to give them a lot of time to close keep the car running to close them it is a vacuum system so it is not good to close them by hand. Welcome to DC by the way bro post some pics when you can.

Go to http://www.corvette-101.com/vacuum.htm for a diagram and a how to.

You probably cross-connected something, or cracked a post on a vacum switch or something when you removed the old units.

As stated above, you should normally have the engine running when ever you're opening and closing the headlights. Leaks in the system will cause them to "pop" up sometimes after you shut the engine off.

A tight vacuum system doesn't take very long to close at all. A leaky one could take all day!

Also check the manual overide switch located just inside the dash under the steering column. It's a push-pull switch which operates in the vertical plane. Pull it out (down towards the floor) to open the headlights without using the normal headlight switch, (headlights pop-up, but the lamps don't light) and push in to return to the normal closed position.

Check the position of this switch, it might be why everything seems to be working inversely, but if its a new-to-you-Vette, there's probably a leak somewhere.

I got so tired of vacuum leaks over the years , that after I had replaced all the vacuum hoses, actuators, etc. I installed a vacuum gauge just under the dash on the center console, just so I could keep an eye on the manifiold vacuum and check for leaks while driving.

Optimists think the glass is half full.
Pessimists think the glass is half empty.

All Righty Then

Aim above morality. Be not simply good, be good for something, and ask yourself two questions:

1. Have you felt and known joy in your life
2. Have you given joy to someone else ....

Correct. You should feel, andhear a distinct click if the switch is adjusted properly.

It's located down on the steering column on the left side, and is mounted via a stamped steel bracket on top of the ignition switch bracket (mounted on-top of the steering column). there are a couple of 5/16" nuts that you can loosen then push the highbeam switch towards the steering wheel, (making sure the actuator pushrod is still seated in the little "cup" on top of the switch "plunger"). You should be able to move the switch until there is no play in the turn signal lever when you pull back on it. Tighten the nuts and you should be good to go.

This whole adjustment might be easier if you drop the steering column to provide better access to the switch mounts, and remove the steering wheel so that it's not in your way while your working.

Thank you for the quick response. Very much appreciated. I will give it a shot on the weekend, I'm having some high temp issues.

For the temp issue make sure you have the lower air dam, it makes a huge difference. If your state doesn't require front license plates, you can always cut out that part which increases air flow as well. Might have to get electric fans installed as well.
