double din stereo

I am having trouble finding threads on c4 (early yrs) specific car audio.. I am about to do a complete audio makeover and I was wondering what everyone else has been using. I'd like a doublle din, but I could of sworn I saw somewhere on a thread saying most DD's wont fit?

They won't fit without some work. Before I built my custom center console piece I played with putting it in the stock one with the stock pieces in place. It can be done, it all fit but was really tight.

early c4's were technically 1.5 DIN. a couple vendors made 1.5 units, but they all pretty much sucked. it would take some slight modification of the dash to make a DD work, but it doable. easiest thing is going to be to just buy the a-typical dash install kit and put in a quality single DIN.

Personally, I never listen to the radio. I always use my iPod. I am toying with the idea of removing the stereo completely and putting a Marine Ipod Power Amp in the hole that is left. Then I can just put a piece of anything to cover the hole and mount gauges in it if I want or just leave it blank. Maybe use a nice piece of CF.

i know what you mean, i have an alpine ida-x100 in my truck. its fully digital, no CDs!. has a small color screen and interfaces with my iphone. it has since been replaced by the ida-x305 i believe that has the pandora link built in, which is really cool.

CDs will very soon be sitting right next to casettes and 8 tracks on antique store shelves.

I'm with you I only listen to the radio in the morning for a talk show otherwise I'm an iPod guy myself. I did the double din for the nav. unit. I have one in both my daily driver truck and my Vette
