Diagnostic Scanner
Hi
Is there any scanners out there in the 200 to 400 dollar range. You read good and bad about all of them,I need a OBD1 mostly as the corvettes are old.I would like it to check sensors, rpm's,timing so I don't have to fool around with the light and meter.
Thanks Jim

So Grump, can I perform all of the trouble-shooting steps in my GM service manual with these software based devices? Things like sending signals to turn sensors on and and off, commands to activate switches and things of this nature for trouble-shooting. Can I do all of that with those software based scanners? I am looking into a new one myself.

no, none of these can do everything. There are some things that are Tech II only. I would have to dig thru the research I did a while ago when I was looking for what would basically be Tech II software for a PC.

Now THAT research is something that I would love to see. I want a software based version of the Tech II.

I found a software package that is close, but still not quite Tech II capabilities.
For good reading: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=921103
