Question Alternator Out Put??

My voltage gauge used to always be over 13 and lately it is at or UNDER the 13. I checked the voltage at the Alt and battery and they are a bit higher then the gauge but not at 13. If I am running on the road it will go to 14 and stay but at idle or running around town it is low. Sounds to be the alt needs to be replaced but before I put out 450.00 for a new one I wanted to see if anyone has seen this on there system? THOUGHTS??

According to the 2005 service manual with a fully charged battery It should run between 12.V-15.5 V normally depending the load,I don't think you have a problem!

No,It really shouldn't.
Is it th original battery?
I'd maybe have it tested,It still could seem strong and be on it's way out!

You can also check to see if the battery is charging during low voltage.

Red face

The battery is new and good! It is a Optima Red Top! The strange this was this AM when I started her and drove her the gauge stayed at 14.2 volts and this is where i am used to seeing it. I have never seen it drop below 13 except when I did have a bad battery a few months ago. Now I know this batt could be bad as some do fail but it starts strong and gives no indication it is not charged and I put the meter on it yesterday and it showed over 12 and matched what the alt was putting out. I am thinking the volt regulator could be bad but that is in the alt and I don't think it can be changed without changing the whole thing...Guess I should be it all checked out.....Was just hoping someone might have an AH HA idea! LOL
