What is the exact code that you are talking about? I need more than just the numbers.

Original posted put c 1286. And the advise is regarding the steering position. But isn't this a vehicle speed sensor issue

There are two problem with figuring out his issue. One, he never listed what year his car is. Two, he never posted if he had RPO JL4 or not. I would need to know those things in order to figure out what his solution would be.

Ah, I see. I have a similar problem with my 01. I have codes c1286h 1287h and 1288h. I know the last 2 are steering position sensor, my traction control light is on, but my traction control works. I do not have active handling.
Reguarding my steering issue. The previous owner had a spec stage 2 clutch installed. I'm quessing they moved the steering wheel with the shaft disconnected. Think I can disconnect the shaft and move the steering wheel 180* and see if thats fixes it? Or is the sensor shot. Thanks man

Do you have the service manual for your car?

Nope. I can only use help from. DC. I've also read conflicting info. So I'm not sure how to proceed

Okay, I'll post the service bulletins that contain specific information about that code for your car. See the attached Adobe document. There will be multiple. Technically, it would be best if you had a scan tool to trouble-shoot the problem but I have been able to diagnose issues like this without one by understanding the information within the documents.

Here's the second document. As you go through these documents, they may refer you to additional documents. Let me know if you need any of the additional ones.

Thanks bro. I have some info to pour thru.
When they say scan tool, I'm guessing their not talking about any scan tool, probably a tech2 right?

Correct. If you want to follow the flow charts in those documents, you're either going to need a Tech II or the Windows based version of a Tech II.

Exactly like the Tech II handheld device works. The both use the same exact software.
