C7 Tailights

The newest teaser vid flashes to a collage of what look to be possible C7 or future Corvette concepts.

If you take a quick look you'll notice the majority of the rear shots feature non-traditional(read: not round) tail light styling.

For those hopeful few that still believe the C7 will feature traditional, round taillights - perhaps this will serve as your rude awakening.

Also, in the vid we're shown a drawing of the rear fascia and an out-of-focus shot of the uncovered car(paired with a bitchin' sound clip of the new exhaust tone)these images match up 100% with the Jalopnik rendering and all spy shots we've seen thus far.

It's pretty clear that this Vette is going to be very angular - and the round taillights will have no place on it (As Longtimer has said again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again... ...and again)

Some Stills from the Video

Front Fascia

In the Nude(Notice the familiar front fender vent)

We've seen that spoiler a few times already

----------------------------

If it ends up being as close to this as I think it will, I'll be a happy guy.

I'm hoping it also gets a hood vent similar to the current Z06, only slightly wider.

What do you guys think?

Those pictures are all design excersises and may not reflect the end result, which I think we all already know. As for hood louvers, I would look to the ZL1 for what production will look like. I'm sure it will be adapted to match the Vette but the functionality mirrors the Zl1.

I agree completely, but I also see plenty of Camaro influence early in this process. This grill in particular looks derived from the Camaro to me. Oh, and there's that mid grill line of either chrome or body color that shouts, "I'm really a chevy."

I think your treading a fine line on the grill comments. Some of that is just the corperate chevy face (which isn't the Camaro). Look at the new Impala. I know parts of the car definatly are, I'm just not sure the grill is.

No question the center line is "Chevy" not just Camaro, but Corvette has never had to wear any "Chevy" cues in the past.

IMO the shape and presentation of the grill in the drawing looks camaro-like to me. If some don't see it - ok. But I think there was some Camaro influence there at the start. I doubt we'll see it in the final shape of the opening which appears to be much smaller and angular like the current trend in grills.

This picture can't get any more blurry then this, but it sure looks like it has a B-pillar. But it's pretty deceiving.

I saw it too, exactly a year ago when we first saw the Jalopnik and then Trinity renderings. But not the current Camaro. It reminded me of a logical progression of the 1982 to 2002 Camaro theme.

That's not all bad IMHO. I've owned all generations of Corvette but have often thought the grill styling left something to be desired. The original 1953-1957 was ok but after that Corvette grilles didn't have a lot of character for about 47 years. They were either hidden behind bumpers or split into 2 or 3 pieces or there was none at all. At least the C6s got a one piece recessed opening.

There will be many complaints here about the C7 losing traditional Corvette styling cues. Many will hate the new side vents, taillamps, and the loss of the halo bar and big heavy rear greenhouse we tolerated for 35 years. But I expect most to agree that the C7 front styling with its defined and functional grill shape to be the best one yet. It's even quite pointed, which will remind some of the 1968-1982.

Not to mention the slick headlamps containing 4 bi-zenon lamps with a smooth glowing white bar along the bottom and outer edge (a hockey stick shape) for DRL's. Just inboard of that, a vertical strip amber led's for turn signals. A clean design when off, bold and high tech when illuminated

The front grille only reminds me of the Corvettes from the 1950s.

I completely understand that. All I'm saying is that if the majority of the design exercises include non-traditional taillights, I doubt we'll see round lights on the C7.

Nonsense. That chrome mid grill line on first-generation Corvettes is an obvious Camaro design cue that was included preemptively in anticipation of the future Camaro. I also can't help but notice that in the video, it appears the C7 will have rubber cylindrical tires JUST LIKE ON TEH CAMARO!!!~! This is a huge disappointment. I can't believe GM would do such a thing.

I can see it. Personally, I think it looks more like the SS concept from 2002(?)

Ummm... compare any of the 50's cars and you will see it. It wasn't until Corvette got a little wilder in it's designs that it was different.

The Aero-ish of the front really started pushing the wedge profile that seperated it from other cars/seans that were "boxes".

Now you see all of the chevy cars coming back to more aerodynamic designs so the reality is that sedans are being shaped more after Corvette now for drag reasons. Technically the rest of the cars are being Corvette influenced.

it's interesting what you are saying. this brings us to an almost another discussion. how will the next chevys be influenced after the c7? will the next camaro stay at its retro style?
now corvette adopting its c1 cues, will it influence all the chevys? if yes, will this mean that chevrolet can't move forward without making the corvette look dated???
