Any reptile keepers on here?
The wife and I are considering getting a bearded dragon, and I would like to get some thoughts on this from my Vette brethren. I especially would like to hear from anyone who has gotten out of this hobby.

If Democrats treated guns like sex, they would want marksmanship classes in pre-school and would pass out ammunition like condoms. |

I have an american tree frog......he's a cool little dude. Not happy about the nasty little crickets (bugs suck!). I hear the bearded dragons are cool but grow to be VERY big.
I've had a few snakes back in the day......6 foot ball python and a 9 foot boa......loved my snakes.......my mom, mmm, not so much

How was lighting? A pain in the ass?
I've done some research on the beardies and the size is about right for the wife and I, heck, at least they don't get iguana size
Creepy crawlies seem to be required food, but they also eat veggies(collard greens, squash and the like)

Reptiles are bad about carrying Salmonella on their skin. If you get one, wash your hands after you handle it.

Not sure about Bearded...but I had an iguana a long time ago. I remember it being a bit of a PITA as far as food, housing, etc. Not to mention ours was a mean SOB. And it needed constant attention and monitoring to make sure that all was right.
But they do look cool

As far as I can tell from my research, beardies are mellow, enjoy being handled once acclimated to human attention(learning that humans aren't going to eat them) and they max out around 2ft.

I've owned:
Nile monitor - never again. He was a MEAN mother. Have a scar on my index finger from where he bit me.
Savannah monitor - awesome. would own one again. he would eat mice, rats, hamburgers, canned cat or dog food.
Columbian boa - awesome. raised him from a fingerling and gave him away when i moved in with my wife. he was about 5 or 6 feet at that time. i slow fed him to keep his size down. had him about 4 years or so. would definitely own another one.
Iguana - hated it. mine was mean and unpleasant to deal with at all. however i had friends that had some that were a bit nicer to deal with but they still seam to have attitudes. kinda like cats. they can be nice one minute and scratch the heck out of you the next.
Never had any issues with any of mine or catching salmonella or anything else. I'm sure I rarely washed my hands after handling mine.
Fun animals to have and don't require a ton of maintenance.
Good luck.
edit: also had several tiny lizards like anoles, skinks and such but they weren't as fun.
