Air Dam/ Cowl/ Spoiler under nose

What is the true name for this part?
Is it 1 or 3 piece?

When I bought my 81' I noticed that I have a lower spoiler on each side under nose, but the center seemed to be missing. After asking around I've gotten a few different answers on both the name and the number of pieces I'm missing. It seems to me to be about a 2.5 ft gap between either side.

Help please, before I spend unneccessary time or money...

Do you have an AIM for your car? If not I recommend you get one, they are a wealth of information on your car. They contain all manor of illustrations, diagrams and detail drawings on the original assembly of your Corvette.

I would be willing to bet ($ not much ) you could find the information you seek in one.

Besides the bumper, there is a 1 piece fiberglass air dam. Below the air dam is a lower spoiler, which is 2 separate pieces, left side/ right side. The top of the air dam bolts to the rad support and the sides of the air dam bolt to each side of the bumper. Each spoiler attaches to the air dam and across to that edge of the bottom of the bumper.

Based on your description, you may be missing the baffle.


The baffle is urethane like the bumper cover and will have exterior paint on the front of it since it is visible under the nose. Two black rubber spoilers (left and right) attach to the lower edge of it.



The baffle and spoilers aid cooling by directing available air through the radiator.

The "snow plow" under my car is made of black rubber. It looks stock, but I can not guarantee it`s the same that came on the car from the factory. My NCRS judging manual also states that it`s supposed to be black rubber. I don`t think anyone remanufactures these out of rubber anymore. But new ones made of fibreglass is readily available.

Thanks for the info ..... And the link(mike80). Just pulled the interior out. Only body part broke,missing was that cowl.

Gonna order that and get ready for paint after I pull weatherstripping off.

@6880 mike ... Thanks for the close up pic. Looks like unless I get a wreck pull off, I'll have to get the aftermarket 1 piece.

Everyone's telling me these parts are some of the first to break in an accident.

Only the two spoilers, left and right, are black rubber. While not the best pic, you can see both of them in the pic I posted above.

You can also see the area where the baffle was painted body color.

Philly: you need one baffle and one pair of spoilers. Better pic here. You can see the painted front lip of the baffle and the two black rubber spoilers.

We actually installed the bumper first. Installing the headlights was a PITA...
