I bought $20 worth twice last week trying to win that darn Powerball jackpot. That would have paid for one of us (not the jackpot -- the 40 bucks). But lemme know the next time you're in DFW. The steak is on me.

How in the hell can you have fewer than one person with a name?

I thought the same thing when I put my wife's name in. Her first name is Deonnah - not very common name. 1 or fewer with her full name.

The vast majority of stick ups end with only loss of property until someone chalenges the robber. This story could have ended quite differently with the robber shooting the manager and or this guy. Who would be the hero then. The police said that this guy had robbed 30 other places, but they did not say he killed anyone durring any of those robberies, a fact that certainly would have been mentioned if it had happened. This guy could have run to his car and called police. He could have then followed the guy and pointed him out to police. Of course hindsight is 20/20 so who knows for sure what any of us would have actualy done.
For breaking corporate policy he deserved to get fired and for being brave and loyal to his manager he deserves to get quietly rehired and given a big raise. Otherwise he should head on down to O'Riely's and tell them the story....I am sure he would be hired in a flash.

I've been in stores that have been robbed on more than a few occasions, and imho, he should've jumped in his car, called 911 and followed the guy...giving the police as much detailed info as possible about the perp, the car, plates ect. If the employee had shot and injured, or worse yet killed somebody, then Autozone would no doubt be held liable. I love firearms, but often people think that just because they have access to a gun, that the gun is the only solution.
Too many people who own guns don't take the time to think things through, and don't realize the awesome responsibility that comes with a weapon. This is mostly due to the lack of respect for these weapons.
For those that "sided" with the employee, would you still feel the same if your kid, wife, gf or other loved-one was in the store?? Would you chance their lives with a guy who obviously didn't think things through??

....as I am one of those that sided, I do not keep a hand gun
period, but seeing the guy fled the scene I don't see that
would make any difference if I was with family or not,
apparently he thought about it as he did not engage in a fire
fight, that split second to produce a weapon appeared to have
had an advantage...if you were a plain clothes officer would you
not draw your weapon...

Just in general it seems that many (not just here) would be in agreement with store personnel bringing a gun to the scene, and I was just wondering if they'd change their mind about that course of action if they had a loved-one on the scene.
As an off-duty officer, you're never really off duty, but you'd first want to assess the situation first. If you see that there is no threat to human life, then there's no need for a gun. However, a rookie might panic, pull his gun and escalate the situation. A seasoned veteran would "feel" things out first, before pulling his gun. That goes for on-duty, as well as off-duty. Most situations involving a perp with a gun a resolved peacefully.
