For the "Junkman".........Electric El Camino

He Spent about 30 grand buying and converting an 80's El
Camino into an electric car. He has some of the batterys
mounted in the back under the bed and the rest under the
hood with a 100hp electric motor and claims it gets 200 miles
to a charge and costs about 1 penny a mile. As much as I love
the sound of a mean V8 I have to admit EV's are cool for
daily drivers.

Hey JunkMan,This is the 21st century!
Believe it or not for about $5.00 we now have a small compact unit that fits in the cooling system that will keep your engine at constant operating temperatures!~!!

At $3.50 a gallon it takes 25,100 miles to make up the difference at 4 miles to the gallon. At 13 miles to the gallon(what my wife averages in her Avalanche) it takes 81,700 miles. At 21 miles to the gallon(what I average in my V-8 vette) 132,000 miles. and that doesn't even factor in his 1 cent a mile operating cost.

That thing couldn't do crap for the El Camino. Believe me, I tried. But you know what finally fixed the problem? A 19" electric fan and this puppy...

No more heating or cooling issues now.

(Notice the Dremel tool. This was no OEM fitting monster)

I'd like to see that thing go 200 miles. Most new factory electric cars don't go 100 miles. Maybe he should share his technology with GM

You have to remember he did not have to follow all the government regulations when he built his. All he had to do was follow common sence...

....you never did say where we were going in the video........."inexperienced speeders".....

....don't know why but I knew you had a piece of cardboard
up front, maybe cause the engine heater was removal-able
and a block heater is in a freeze plug location....

....I was hoping you'd flag down those lowboys w/front end
loaders, and got me a job.....

If you know how to work one of those things, come on over. We'll hit a construction site, steal one and get in a low speed pursuit with the police!

My '83 overheated for 20 years. Finally got a new triple core radiator and 180 degree thermostat and problem solved. However, this pic was taken during the four years it spent being a catch all in the garage with a busted tranny. It's fixed now and back on the road.

Nah..., he removed all the junk but they do make good storage bins for the garage. Mine has performed that duty a FEW times.

It is 100% original. Bought new by my Dad in 1983. Has lived it's life in the garage and everything works. I drove it every day for nearly 10 years until I got the '09 Vette. It has maybe 115k miles on it.
