Sadly, my son gave up the ghost here a while back and has lost complete interest in our project. Really bums me out to no end, but I don't want to completely drive him away by trying to force him to do it....So I've been doing this with my buddy Jeff.
After fighting all the little crap that always haunts a project, My buddy and I tried to start the car on Friday night. It cranked over, but with heavy effort. When we installed the adjustable rockers, the instructions seemed odd..It seemed that it had us tighten them down really tight...but ok, that's how they wanted it. But once we heard it crank over, we both looked at each other with the same thoughts...rockers! Really late in the night, we called it quits. Last night we tore off the valve covers and literally loosened all the valves until just zero lash...regardless of cam position. Put it all back together and it fired right over. Granted, it ran like crap because none of the valves are properly adjusted, nor is the timing right yet...but IT RAN! It's so loud with the side pipes! I can't WAIT!
Question though. One of my other buddies just happen to drop by after we got it started and asked if we did the cam break in. (1500 RPM's for 30 MIN) He says it hardens the cam and breaks it in proper. I've never heard of such a thing. Anyone else?
I'm hoping to have it drivable before Christmas. But there are some little things to be done still. Like moving the water temp sensor, installing the oil sending unit(long story), installing new plug wires....stuff like that. So we'll see.
I mocked up the side pipes so when we started it, it didn't shoot crap all down the side from the headers.... Mmmmmmm....
