Aftermarket MAF for 87 TPI...Thoughts

Hi Guys,

I have an 1987 C4 with Standard TPI. I wanted to replace my MAF with the following aftermarket MAF:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400318283098...098%26_rdc%3D1

Any thoughts or experience on how good or bad these units are would be much appreciated.

Happy New Year Guys

SORRY - Forgot to mention the original MAF is dead. Cheers

Why is there a problem with your stock MAF?

I would try to find a stock bosch replacement. Dont know that I would trust a part that says it will work on a 305 and a 350 especially if you have any mods done. To me bosch would be a much more trusted brand. Price wise I have seen reman bosch MAF for not much more. Just my .02 . If you do try it let us know if it works.

Not questioning you but I trust you have checked power to the MAF, any breaks in the wiring harness? Are your relays good?

No worries at all Definitely checked all of the above as you have suggested.

It was throwing a code 33 when driving on the highway at 55mph in 4th gear (automatic) and cruising constantly at that speed for a minute or so. But other than that, it was running fine.

I borrowed a friends MAF as he also has an 87 c4, and the code 33 did not re-appear and the car ran perfectly. I took it for a test drive with the borrowed MAF for the whole day to make sure. This is why i'm after a new MAF at this stage.

There are many bad stories with replacing the MAF with a non bosch unit, which was why i thought id jump on the forums to check peoples opinions. It looks like ill have to source a bosch unit and be safe

Check on rockauto.com They will usually have them, but they go pretty fast when they do. They are listed under "emissions" tab in the catalog IIRC. BTW the A1 Cardone reman units are usually bosch and are much cheaper than the bosch branded reman units. I have replaced three ( all in different vettes) with no problems with them. I think they have new bosch in stock also if you have deep pockets. Last I checked they were about 1k for new units. Might also try cross referencing the bosch part # in their site also. Sometimes it will pull up a part for another vehicle that uses the same part but no "corvette tax".Good luck

If you weren't so far away I'd send you one I have but it's used and I'd hate for you to invest the money to get it to you only for it to crap out because it's used. Good luck in the search.
