LED overkill
Anyone else getting tired of the new LED light bars on emergency vehicles? I realize they need visibility, but I could see the old bulbs as far away as the landscape would allow without any trouble. Even our firefighters complain about having to work vehicle collisions at night with police on site. Just a glance at those things at night leaves you with blind spots for a while.
I know LED's are a much better and more reliable option, but there's no reason they can't use a smoked lense to tone it down a bit. I think they cause more safety issues than they solve.
Just my .02.

It comes down to the fact that people have their radios up so loud and cell phones crammed up their asses that we have to have lights that create seizures just so their dumb asses will get out of the way. My agency tried using a rumble siren but it shook the bolts loose on the car. If only they made louder sirens. 130db sirens can be out run. At 120mph you sneek up on people quick, that's where the lights come in.
Yes, they are extremely annoying, I can't follow another cruiser too closely because of how bright they are, but they get peoples attention, especially in the daylight. I do wish they had a day/night button at times. We have been transitioning from the old crapping looking Vector bars that NYPD uses with halogen bulbs, then the Vectors with LEDs, now we are using slimline with the latest technology. We have 3 positions to turn the lights down, I usually turn the lights down once I have control of the scene.
Oh yeah, tag on the light bar says don't look directly at the lights.

I don't mind the new light bars as long as they aren't directly behind me and flashing

Heard that...
I agree on needing a day/night setting. The warning on the light bar is funny. "Pay attention to me, but don't look at me" is what it really needs to say.

Somehow "pilot" and "blind" in the same sentence sends a chill down my back. Kind of like "divorce" or "colonoscopy."

But I will still prefer led lights as they consume much less power
