was someone asking how much to paint a C5?
well.... I have an idea now. The hurricane Sandy did a number on my 2000 convertible. it ripped the earth achor straps on my portable garage and tosses the the garage onto the sides of the car, and the one door flap just slapped the front end silly. tons of scuffing and scratches, from the doors forwards and a few spot on the quarter. Got a tip about a good shop my coworker took his 07 to. The owner fought hard with the insurance adjusted and the $4K insurance estimate settled down north of $11K....the shop takes as much of the car apart as it can to paint...they are certified factory authorized for all the top end makes...auston martin, Bentley, Rolls royce, you name it. huge shop tons of equipment, and workers..
car might be done any day...
no dents, it was all paint and they painted the WHOLE car
will post pictures for sure once i get her back..

I'm glad to hear the insurance came thru for you. I know how sinking it can feel to have to deal with them and worry about getting the shaft and having to settle with less than preferred workmanship in the repair.
Be sure to post the pics!

Glad to hear that your insurance worked out for you, but bit surprised that they agreed to pay 11k instead of salvage your car.
As C5 Dude said, post up some 'detail close-up' pics once the painting is done.

Your insurance paid 11 grand to paint a $20,000 car? That's fucking crazy no wonder insurance costs so much

I was thinking the same thing. I want to see how much orange peel is in the paint when they're done. For 11K, that paint should be slicker than mine.

there will be zero before I bring the car home!!
they take the car apart as much as possible to paint all the pieces seperately...I am not sure when they wet sand the paint out, then clear it , then sand it and detail it all out....
i told him i expect to count my eye lashes....
this operation they have is off the charts ..we will see what the results are on my car...
they had 6 aston martins in the shop the day i went to show him my car for a quote. the place was packed with hurricane sandy damaged cars.....most totalled by salt water damage

I got my car back about a month ago, and took this picture right outside the shop that day....it wasnt the best light... there was a scratch in a head lamp cover, so the car has to go back....but for now it is in the garage and there is snow outside.
this is a picture this past summer...the paint was still sweet after 12 years!
this is outside the shop after the paintjob
the car always looks the best on slightly over cast days... it darkens the red ....
I really havent looked the car over since i picked it up...
they are going to come get it and flatbed it back to the shop when the snow goes to redo the headlamp cover, and power wash the convert top....which they did previous and left stripes......

Why in the world would you go through all that trouble when you could just take the headlamp cover to them instead? It takes all of about 3 minutes to remove that cover and you won't have to worry about anything crazy happening to your car.

Was wondering the same thing, unless the painter has a color-matching concern?

i was going to mail the cover to them, and have them repaint, but i complained to the owner about them power washing the convertible top and leaving stripes...and i said the engine compartment seem to have compound slung on it....
he said that was TOTALLY unacceptable and offered to get a car carrier up to my place to pick it up and bring it back....
that sounds fine to me..
i dont want to drive down there again if i dont have to!!! its a mad house...and all the people on the street look at you like you are steak!! there could be 6 people talking up near the door of a store and when you stop at the light, they all stare you down and give you the stink eye....
not that i am worried so much....but nothing good could come out of it.. and the streets vary as to teh direction, one ways only. but it isnt patterned very well.... thus the creeps on the corners knowing you are out of place

That's why you keep your .44 Magnum laying on the seat. You would be surprised how fast they back away from the car once they get a glimpse of that thing.
