I just had a great idea on how we could pay off the national debt. We could take every dollar that states get back from the federal government above the dollar they pay in and put it towards the national debt instead of state welfare. That would be a very fair way to stop our out of control debt, and it would allow all of you who hate government to put your money where your mouth is since almost all of the states that take more than they give are republican states, and almost all of the states that pay more than they take are democrat states.

A better way would be to repeal the Federal Reserve Act (It's not federal and there is no reserve) and the 16th amendment. Pass a balanced budget amendment and remove the direct election of senators.

And my way would work, unlike that pie-in-the-sky horsepucky you posted.

"Paying down" the debt will be meaningless until our spending comes in line with revenue. For once I agree with VN. We need a balanced budget amendment. What good does it do to pay down the budget by $100B in a year if we deficit spend $1T?

I may be naive and I probably am but I don't think OUR elected officials have it in them to make the tough choices and cut what needs to be cut. They are all living high on the hog as the saying goes and want nothing but status quo, let the next watch handle it.

The only way to reduce the national debt is to stop the moronic spending habits of the current administration. My suggestion for a way to stop the spending is short ropes and tall trees.

Id love that idea being enforced strictly

Id also strongly suggest TWO NEW amendments to the constitution that say

"no politician can be eligible for or seek re-election or appointment to ANY office if the debt increased while he or his predecessor was in office, and term limits will never exceed 8 years total in any office"

" no law or benefit, SHALL be proposed or enacted, or granted too,or be enforced, that allows any group to have privileges, rights, penalty's, benefits, increased taxes, or exclusion from taxes or benefits or penalty,s or special treatment in any way or any other form of compensation that the population as a whole is not similarly entitled to or excluded from, in equal amount"
