Lower horsepower? It's up from 430 to 450. It ain't exactly your '77 with 195.

I received an email from a fellow employee who is in our Sweden office. He has a C4 and belongs to a Swedish Corvette club.

His comment, "Little to less USA and a bit to much Italy."

FWIW

He didn't even name a forum. In fact he said several different forums that didn't like it.

There seems to be a generalizing trend developing that is completely bogus. Everyone who does not like this design is not old ... anymore than everyone who likes it is young.

Are we talking same hp? Or is one BHP and the other boiler horse power? How many kW is it?

Good point. That 195 in '77 could not have been the same scale as today's engines. I had a '77 when it was two years old, and it ran like a bat for it's day. Now it wasn't in a league with the late 60's and certainly not in a league with today's Vettes. But it darn nure didn't run like it had less than half the HP of the C6/7.

Chrysler gets 470 hp from their 6.4 without Direct Injection and GM can only get 450hp with all their tech ? something smells... i believe it to be a marketing gimmick...
so in year 1, it's 450hp in year 2 it will be 460, in year 3 it will be 470... GM can't give you the full potential of that motor on day 1.

PS: I'm 53 years old... been around long enough to know about smoke and mirrors. I see a lot of... "i love it" but i will have to get used to that rear end...... why should we have to comprimise...

And with a 10% boost in price.... you will really have to love it a lot more....
It does look better that what we've seen in Jalopnick renderings... but it has lost it's identiy....

Not to be childish in my reply, but the body styling is just aweful. It looks childish. Too much Japanese, and europe merged, with a butt ugly tail.

The interior looks like a C4 and that is well accepted as the worst interior of all the corvettes.
Not childish at all, your opinion is your opinion which I happen to agree with. The Lambo splitter, the Camaro rear, the wrap around cockpit...........

Btw, NOTHING works with that design.
I am also in the age group GM is targeting. Epic fail.

I get a kick out of every one trying to make it look like some other car...

If I was going to say it looked like any thing, I would say with the low sloping hood, high front fenders. thin waist line around drivers compartment, and a high flat rear end. Can I say coke bottle. I like the C3 in it.

Unfortunately it also has other C3 traits, lower horse power, and engineered toward fuel economy. And trying to cover it all up with a fancy dash, leather, colored displays. and carbon fiber.

Do I like it of course I do, it's a brand new CORVETTE. Would I buy a new one? No to much new technology that can break to take it out on the track and beat it up.

Maybe in a few years when the bugs are worked out.
Agree with much of the above. The rear end is too derivative of a Camaro, the front a little too Viper-ish, the side profile too reminescent of the old Datsun Z... not that that was a bad design; I loved mine. I like the focus on technology, and it looks like they have addressed the issue of quality, but in all I'd have to regretttably conclude that the designers lacked focus. It appears to have been designed by a committee. They tried too hard to make this a car that tries to be all things to all people. It lacks unity; it doesn't appear to be "all of a piece." Very disappointing.

Got to agree with 800XP on all counts. I've owned every generation of Corvette so far but the 'Boy Racer' looks and Camaro look rear do nothing for me. And a 16 HP bump in power for all the new tech seems a waste of resources and way behind the competition.
I feel let down by this generation so far-time will tell.......
