I agree. I had a friend back around '72 who got a brand new LT1 Corvette in the British Racing Green (probably not the official name). I thought it was one of the best looking Vettes I had ever seen at the time. It was key in me pressing my desire to get a Corvette. I finally got one in 1976.

The process itself is very time consuming. I can only imagine GM partners being pressed for time trying to get the wheel / car out, fudging something up in the process. Who knows
***EDIT***
Machine you are right, I guess Chrome Plating doesnt add THAT much weight, it does, but inconsequentially.
Your wrong about everything that is chrome plated needs to be triple plated, soooo....
NA NA BOO BOO I cant hear you!!

Well that is true but since we are talking about aluminum wheels they all need tripple plating. Steel and copper alloys do not need the first copper plate. So unless yoy are talking about steel wheels or copper alloy wheels...you have to triple plate.

I had a 1972 Elkhart Green convertible (with hardtop); great looking car.
