I sent an email to Ruger this morning. They pulled out this afternoon. I am sure they received thousands of emails.

Based on the number of sponsors pulling out, this must have been one hell of a big show!
The sad thing, is that you know this was a corporate decision made in a boardroom between a bunch of suits that had no idea what goes on in the real world. They made a decision based on politics and political correctness. Dumb asses!

The irony is that Reed Exhibitions put on the SHOT Show last week. I lost count at 50 companies who manufacture AR15's. There had to be 100 or more at the show.
The Eastern Outdoor show is a big deal. I usually go, with some friends. You could spend a full day walking the show.
On another note, online ticket sales are no longer available for the show...

I was told today that they advertise the show as having over 1200 vendors present. So yes, it's a big ass show.
So at about 240 and counting 20% have backed out.

The gun vendors are the anchors of the show. People go to the show to see the guns and then shop around with the outfitters and equipment companies. Since all of the major gun companies have pulled out of the show, there is not much left to draw people to make the drive to Harrisburg.
Also, the larger sponsors and exhibitors (like Cabelas) buy booths that are 20 or 30 spaces, so their absence will leave very large holes in the event.
The sad part is that some of the vendors who may not be paying attention to this situation are going to show up to a half-empty exhibition hall with very few attendees.

This show has been cancelled. Statement from NSSF:
NSSF Statement on the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show
January 24, 2013
By nssfnews
We have just learned that Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show.
In the days following Reed Exhibitions’ announcement that modern sporting rifles would be prohibited from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, the leadership of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has been in intense, frank discussions with Reed Exhibitions management in an effort to reverse this unacceptable decision. These discussions reached an impasse.
NSSF is in no way affiliated with, nor does it participate in or exhibit at this show in any way. Reed Exhibitions does, however, manage the NSSF-owned SHOT Show (though Reed manages the SHOT Show, all SHOT Show decisions, policies and actions are made at NSSF’s direction).
Because of Reed’s recent actions, NSSF is considering all options regarding the management of future SHOT Shows.

Better ask that to Reed Exhibitions.

I believe I read earlier in this thread that they are a British company. I'm betting the decision was made by a not so in touch leftist kind of mind. Kind of interesting that some one making this poor decision would be planning a Gun Show in the first place.
I would expect that a company exhibiting a GUN show, would be an enthusiast for GUNS.

I think you're right.
And yea...but unfortunately, lots of business is now being run by bean counters instead of people who are passionate about the business they are doing. Which results in boned-headed decisions like this.

I think that the media and political class try to paint hunters and sport shooters as two different groups. Of course they demonize the latter group. So many politicos have said they were against one particular type of gun, but for hunters. That kind of talk is bullshit.
In reality, they are often the same people and when not, have common interests. Kind of like drag racers and road racers. Sometimes the same people, but even when not, lots in common and common goals and interests. At minimum, they spend their money in the same places.
