But do you atleast agree that if the government were to REALLY want to turn on us, that they would use such overwhelming force that common citizens wouldn't be able to do much. Consider the disparity of available weapons.

This is bat-shit insanity. The government is made up of people like you and me. It would be imposible in this country to wage war on the citizens, because the only people the government has to wage that war are the actual people they would wage war on. Do you really believe that a majority of US soldiers would wage war on the citizens of the US???

This sort of talk is used by certain groups to try and incite hatred and fear of the government. The worst of these groups hope to start a war, since they cannot gain anywhere near the majority that it would take to make the changes they wish would take place. Most of those changes not surprisingly would put those people in positions of power over everyone else. The best of these groups are gun and amunition manufacturers who have been extremely succesfull at getting a lot of fools to buy guns and amo to protect themselves from absolutly nothing.

So try and think rationaly for a minute, and ask yourself these questions:

If the government was trying to stockpile weapons and amunition to kill US citizens, Why would they do it openly so we can all figure it out??? If they are omnipotent enough to kill all of us, wouldn't they be omnipotent enough to hide the build up????

Why would the government want to kill the people who give them power??? The US is the lone superpower in the world because of it's citizens. If they killed them, how would they maintain that power??? How would they defend themselves against countries like China, and Russia or even Iran????

How would they keep the plans secret? Again the government is made up of lots of people, with lots of different beliefs. How would you keep any plans to attack the people secret??? Hell with Wikileaks around this would be a prime target if it was true. Even if there was just a contingency plan in place in case Social Security runs out, that plan would somhow leak. It is just the nature of beauracracies that secrets like this could not be contained.
