Burns...good article....still doesn't fix the problem of how we will never agree on a test or rubric to decide who is "crazy" or not.

So you'd prefer a system where the vocal minority (Romney lost both the popular and electoral vote) is in control now and forever...because "they know best"? And remind me again, WHICH party wants to fundamentally change this country?

Where did I say that? Do you comprehend English?
I believe you may qualify for the front seat in the short bus.

It's implied....you're basically saying all Democrats are crazy. Sure, lets take their guns away...then lets see how else we can limit them....ya know...since they're crazy.
Problem with you is that you have mouth diarrhea, and you can't stop it...so by the time you think about what you've REALLY said, its too late and you've got a lap full of your own watery shit.

First of all. I was joking about the Bat Shit Crazy.
The only one's that are Bat Shit Crazy are the ones that voted for Obama. The rest are fine.
As for taking their guns away, you've already said it will never happen. So why are you all riled up?
Here comes the short bus.

Dude...this thread...and others like it...are ALL taking about how "mental health" is the most important factor here...and those that are deemed crazy should NOT be able to own guns...or maybe just "assault weapons"...whatever. You even agreed with my analysis of how hard it will be to define crazy.
And a general, sweeping "give us your guns" thing is never going to happen....period.
And yea, the short bus cometh...and it cometh for you.

That would be your opinion. Not a good one, but your opinion none the less.
History repeats itself. Fact.
The US is becoming more and more progressive Socialist each day. Eventually, it will happen. Won't be today. Won't be tomorrow. But it will happen as more and more people are brainwashed to believe the government is here to help you.

I wish I had an answer.
So the mental issue of this reminds me of an old joke from high school.
The head doctor of a mental institute was called in to confirm three new inductees to the nut cracker.
The head doctor goes in the first padded cell and see's a man flapping his arms and tweeting like a bird. The Dr. ask's the man what he thinks he is and the man says I'm a bird, the Dr. says you're fucking nuts so you're in.
The Dr. goes to the next room and see's a man swinging an invisible golf club and saying four. The Dr. ask's what he's doing and the man says he's playing golf. The Dr. say's you're fucking nuts so you're in.
Finally the Dr. walks into the third room and see's a man laying on the floor stark naked with a full blown Corvette hard on with a peanut on top of his dick. The Dr. ask's him what he's doing and the man say's I'm fucking nuts why do you think I'm here?

I can see it now. We agree to tackle the issue solely on the mental health side and then nothing will come of it because there will be endless bitching about what constitutes "crazy." And again....nothing well get done.
Probably have more success attempting to wipe your ass with a hula hoop and stay clean.

I think the main component I'm talking about is the situation where a mental health specialist is seeing a patient regularly, figures out that they are dangerous, and says nothing for fear of legal repurcussions. This is exactly what happened in the case of the Colorado theater shooter. A college psychologist basically dumped him because it was clear he was dangerous, didn't report it to law enforcement because of privacy issues - an I think to this day has not release those records for privacy issues. Just like health professionals are protected legally against lawsuits if they report suspected child abuse, mental health professionals should feel compelled to report patients with a high liklihood of violence and they should be protected from lawsuits that might result from privacy issues, etc. At this point, they would not be the only person in the decision making process. A panel of qualified professionals from mental health and law enforcement could review the case. Of course, some kind of debate and guidelines would have to be drawn up first to guide these panels. But unless we do something like this, the random shooter problem will never be solved or even reduced.

This is also something that needs to be addressed. But what you are talking about only addresses people that are already seeing a therapist. What about the crazy people that don't see doctors?
I can see the end result...a lot of finger pointing and claiming each side is unAmerican etc...and then the next shiny object will pull our attention away and nothing will happen. Until the next time.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there legislation passed after the Virgina Tech shooting...is THAT even being enforced?
Here's a link to the proposal:
