LT1 a.i.r. system/gas mileage-tuning?

Like the title says my a.i.r. system is starting to malfunction frequently and finding parts for this is an increasingly difficult proposition. Will removing the air system and tuning effect the egr freeway cruising mileage or any other part of the fun factor in driving?

AIR is a anti pollution device that injects air at start up to burn off excess fuel.Should not effect normal engine operation

You're in TX which requires annual inspections. If the inspector notices any of the pollution devices missing or disconnected, it won't pass inspection. Something to think about.

That is the worry Tex. Don't want to remove the a.i.r. but the system keeps failing one super hard to find part after another. Never had any inspector actually check but would still rather have everything work as it should. Any sources for emissions parts?

Leave the pump in place but pull the vanes and unplug it. It shouldnt set any codes, if it does I know it can be removed in the tune. What makes you think it has parts failing?

Its always the switching solenoids or pump falling apart. even with nos stuff it just ends up same stuff frequently for the low mileage its used.

Oh then I would just unplug it and pull the vanes from the pump. That way it will look as if it is all there and functional for inspection. Shouldnt set any codes. Mine never did. Just watch where you leave the wiring so it doesent short on anything or get caught in the belt.

Its my 86 with the full 96 LT1 so its sets the code in seconds. Sucks big time.

I do know it can be removed in the tune if that is any help.
