The flaw in that analogy assumes people who own 'assault weapons' parade around the public streets shooting at whatever they choose. A more plausible analogy would be "the same reason we have to keep our cars locked up with no gas in the tank, because someone could break into our garage and steal the car and drive it into a crowded theater or school class" ...

Happens about as much as stolen cars being driven into crowds, no?
Or asteroids crashing into the earth and killing everything...should we outlaw asteroids or find a way stop it from happening?

I have no problem with hobby gunners. Seriously I don't. But times they are a changin'. Maybe this: you can own these high power type guns for "pleasure" shooting...but it stays locked up at the club of your choice or where ever it is you decide to go shoot.
I don't know the exact solution, but SOMETHING is going to happen and unless people all work together on this, some law is going to get jammed through and its gonna be bad.
|
The difference here is I can buy a Top Fuel Dragster and no one is talking about banning future sales of Top Fuel Dragsters, and no one is talking about universal background checks on Top Fuel Dragsters even though they can't cover the checks they are performing now, no one is talking about limiting the fuel cell size of a Top Fuel Dragster. And finally no one is in a lather about Camaros and Mustangs because they "look" like Top Fuel Dragsters(funny cars)

And vigilance is warranted. But this time around, they are talking about something that affects no one who already owns a legal weapon.

So taking the ability of citizens to own guns by limiting or elimiting future sales is OK? Got it. As long as we don't take "current" owners guns, no biggy. This is typical political scamming.
