Ummmm. This is very common in pediatric dentistry. Many kids are put to bed with a bottle when they are babies, and the habit is continued into early childhood. It's called Nursing Bottle Syndrome. All of their baby teeth decay badly, and the only option to keep the teeth is to put stainless steel crowns on them. This is a parent problem, not a dentist problem. I don't understand why the parent didn't know this was going to happen, because you always discuss the treatment with the parent. My guess? It's a Medicaid patient and the mother didn't understand the explanation of the treatment when it was given.

I learned early on that I have supreme patience with adults who are fearful or challenged in some way. But I just don't have the patience with kids for some reason. As a result, I haven't done major work on a kid for 25 years. We have a lot of great pediatric dentists in our area (thank goodness!)
