Cutting the coil springs

My project has always been a budget build and that theme continues. On a previous car, '66 Mustang, a common mod was to cut the coils on the front to lower it. Is this something that can be done on my '72 Vette? I'm thinking about just grabbing the coil springs out, cutting a 1/2 round off and putting them back in. Anybody tried it?

As you can tell, I need to drop the front just a bit.

Same theory as your Mustang.

Guys on here have been cutting coils for ever.
Pretty much trial and error. I'd start with a half coil and go from there.

You can also just replace the OEM SBC springs with shorter stiffer BBC springs, it'll drop like 1-1/4" I think, and give you better handling. Only $79.99 for the pair! (From CA) there are other vendors offering similar $.

Do a search on spring removal. But Vette Brakes and Products sells 460 and 550 pound one inch shorter front springs. Because they are shorter it is easier to R&R them.

They are also powder coated nd look nice

I cut a coil out of my L48 76 air car, I put aluminum heads and intake on and removed the air-cond compressor, It was way up in the air. sorry no pictures, I cut a full coil out because of way it indexes in the spring pockets, Looks right now, I'm doing a LS1/4L60E conversion and might have to try new springs if the ride hight comes back up with the aluminum block, good luck on your selection,
