73 Body Off Frame - 73LS1's Project

So...who can think of a better way to spend a 12 degree day with 40 mph winds and snow flurries in Central Illinois???

This is 73LS1's LS powered 73 will be getting fresh paint soon - as well as a number of other details.

We used this four post lift with some creativity...and it worked wonderful.

Looking good, Chris. Nice to see you at it again.
We lifted my body off with a four post also. Pretty slick way to do it.
Keep the photos coming.

I find a little piece of sanity through my vette project, other than that I rely on Jesus.

This is all Charley's project - He just talked me into being part of it. It all started with some other repairs that damaged the paint...needing a repaint - and now snowballing into a frame off. You guys know how that goes!

Me too, I'm subbed on this one.
What lsx is that with the high PS reservoir, is the alt on the bottom and did the rear alt mount bolt clear the engine mount frame bracket? Also what's the big honkin' frame member on front, tilt front end? Are you going to strip the frame down and powdercoat? You're definitely all in now, good luck.

This project started when I tried to pump the gas out of the tank and the hose came off the pump. The paint was 40 year old and the gas ate the paint. Needless to say I was sick about what had happened.
My son is a very good painter and he said we should strip it and paint the vette in base coat clear coat. Next came the body mounts because the back end was sagging a little. My son said we need to replace them so the gaps in the doors would line up.All the body mounts came loose without any problems except the #4 mounts.
I was looking at the rocker channels and they were rusty so I decided to pull the body with the help of Chris. I had every thing unhooked and it took us about 3 hours to pull it.
Next I will pull the motor and disassemble the suspension. All the suspension is Van Steel and was installed last year.I am going to replace the brake lines and fuel line. The frame will be sandblasted and painted single stage enamel.
My goal is to have it done by LS fest in September. So wish me luck because this snowball is getting bigger every day.

Slofut, the ls motor came out of a 2002 Ram Air Trans Am.I used the stock accessories and every cleared. The motor has been in since 2006 and I have driven about 25000 miles. The big honkin bracket on the front is the vacuum tank.Thanks,Charlie.
