More Before Hotrod Power Tour Woes

Once again, I'm running behind due to unfortunate luck. This supercharged LS3/LSA has indeed proven to be quite the challenge. Once this hurtle was achieved, it seemed it was clear sailing, ready for me to install my Classic Air ac system in before the tour, all you know what decided to break loose.

It all started with the transmission, but didn't stop there. The 3rd gear clutches gave out again, so out with transmission again. I also had to send the 3600 Vigilante in for an entire rebuild as the input was ate up.
A week or so later, I put her back in and with less than 30 miles on her, I hit her hard under full boost and something came undone in the transmission and the engine blew past the rev limiter before I could shut her down.
So....out came the transmission again and this time I turned the new and improved Borg Warner sprag gear inside out, turning all 29 teeth inside out.

So out came the transmision again. A few days later, it was ready go back in (I'm getting where it only takes me less than 1.5 hours to have it down).

On my first test drive it became obvious I had a miss, and a bad one.
Further investigation revealed a broken spring on #2 exhaust valve. Luckily, I had dual springs and it kept me from dropping a valve.
A few hours later and I found a set of springs and used the old rope trick to hold the valves and swapped out the broken in 3 places spring.

Feeling a huge bullet had been dodged, I shut the shop down and called it a night.
Today after work I went for a spin. I felt pretty good, but was babying her along for fear of whats next, then all the sudden at a stoplight, the miss came back.

Being #2 cylinder, the exhaust valve is right under the oil fill cap so a quick check showed my new spring was intact.
So I limped her home, and pulled the #2 spark plug. It was hitting, but running a lot richer than the other cylinders.
Tomorrow, I'll confirm fears with a cylinder leak down test. If it's what I think it is, tomorrow evening I'll be pulling a head, hoping the bent valve is only a bent valve.

For most of human history,
Vehicles had automatic collision avoidance and
Could even take you home if you were sleeping or drunk.
Then we got rid of the horse

RACING...Because with baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and golf, you only need one ball

I used to think that I had learned patience as I got older. Then I realized that I just didn't give a shit

Because I am a loyal AMERICAN and unlike some members that say to the contrary, Trump IS my president

Yes it sucks and I do have some time. But I really don't want to be wondering if I will make it there and back.
My car needs to prove herself "dependable"!

Last night was already set to be fraught with bad news, and I was already psych'd for what I figured was going to be a long weekend.

This morning I dug in to find this elusive miss that has plagued me since the transmission grenade. Finding the broken spring and not dropping a valve was some well needed icing, but when backfiring is involved, the end results usually aren't offered up in the manner of "good news", so to speak......but this time the Corvette God's shined upon my 1000's of hours of blood, sweat and tears and offered me up a break.

I have to thank HP Tuners for getting me on the right track, because intermittent problems are among the most difficult problem child to locate and isolate when it won't do ti all the time.

What I found was a barely frayed piece of insulation on the PCM ground trigger for #6 cylinder was making it's own ground...once in a while. Doing so caused a dead injector.

I nice 30 mile ride confirmed we are back in the saddle again!!!

Now, here is really beautiful weather, my car is running AND shifting great, and it's about time to start on pulling the factory air conditioning and installing the Classic Air Perfect Fit Elite Series air conditioning....which means my car will be broke down again.

Or...I can drive it and wait for some crappy Oklahoma weather before parking her.

Hmmm....what to do.

While I'm thinking on it, I think I'll put the top down and grab a few gears!

Do yourself a favor and go and enjoy the car. Sometimes you spend so much time working on it you get burnt out. It's running and driving. You don't need AC to enjoy it.
