Build Date Question

Well, now that I've owned my ZR1 for all of 2 days, I'm really interested in getting some information of the history of my car.

Specifically, I'm looking for info regarding what the date was that the car was built. Also, since only 7 Aqua w/ black interiors were ever built in 1995, I'm wondering how I can find out if this was one of the first or one of the last Aqua/black cars that were built.

I checked with the Corvette Museum and they indicated even with my VIN they couldn't help (not even with a build date). The car was #236 of the 1995 production run that year.

Any ideas as to how to track this information down?

PS: I've never been so obsessed with gathering information on a car as I am with this one. Not sure why; maybe it's just the attraction of the ZR-1!

I'm not sure who you talked to at the Museum, but if you order the build sheet from them, then you'll have a much better idea of when the car was actually assembled.

I'm not sure that anyone will be able to give you a certain answer on where your particular color falls in the sequence.

If energy and enthusiasm were a substitute for experience and expertise, then I could hire my 12 year old to do this job.

JeffVette most likely got the information from a place you should join.

http://www.zr1netregistry.com/index.htm It is loaded with information on the 2nd generation ZR-1
Rich

It appears that there were 2 Bright Aqua/Black cars built after yours. That info IS from The ZR-1 Net Registry.

Jeffie is the MAN!!!

I've said this before, I'll say it again:
If Jeff told me that my blinker fluid was low I'd hand him my Visa card and the keys to my Z.
If he's gonna fill the blinker fluid he'd better replace the muffler bearings too.

Actually got my daughter on the "Muffler Bearings" when she was learning how to drive.

I stopped my son (her older brother) from ever talking to her about driving when I found out he'd told her that red stop signs really mean stops were "optional" if the red stop sign had a white border around it!

My '93

Hey Jeff,

Can you help me with my '93? I've got VIN #115, Torch Red/Gray. How many more of those were built in '93? I believe it's a rare combination for that year.

Dennis

Dennis, the data is not really available via GM VIS. The system is real sketchy beyond 96/97. The museum is supposed to be electronically compiling the car info, and have been doing this for a year. I tried to see if we could get a small group together at last years BG to see about sorting through the 90-93 build sheets and get the data. I was rejected.

Jeff,

Thanks for the scoop. I've been down that Museum path, too. Was told it's still hung up in GM's legal counsel. Why they would still have concerns over ~15 year old data is beyond me. Just another example, I guess, of some of GM's head-in-the-sand attitude. If they would take the wraps off that ZR-1 data, it could be turned into a great fund raiser for the museum (I'd gladly pay, say $100, for mine). GM could even take their cut.

Dennis

A copy of the build sheet is on top of the gas tank.

If you take the license plate off you have a good chance of grabbing it.
Just watch the tank band straps and do not just yank it off
