Rattling noise solved
I have had such an annoying rattling sound coming from underneath my C5/A4. I believe i finally figured out where it is coming from. Not the heat shields, not the o2 sensors, not an exhaust leak, how about the F_ _ _ing a/c belt tensioner
pulley.............. . I have read multiple posts reguarding this problem including GM trying to resolve this annoying sound. I removed the a/c belt and the car is now quiet. My tensioner pulley had a slight amount of play. Apparently enough to cause that noise. For anyone with the same problem, remove your a/c belt and listen...............
I hope this helps alot of you.

That is unreal. Reminds me of the time I tried to track down a cricket in my house.... 3 DAYS!
Only to find out the smoke detector in the hall was giving off it's "low battery" chirp.

I have a rattle coming from the front of the car when I take off from stop to 1rst. I got under there to move things around to see if something was loose. I found that the spoliler in the center has a rattle when you move it some. I don't think the sound you are having is the same as mine. I think that moving out from a stop makes that spoiler rattle pretty good. Anyone experience this?

I have not heard of this at all.
Possibly you smacked the spoiler on something?

Laurie TT..
The center spoiler is spring loaded to rebound after contact. The springs may be the source of your noise.

I had a rattle once... The Bose system and the L98's soundtrack fixed that.

That is exactly what it sounds like and what I thought was the source of the noise. Wonder what I can do about those springs rattlin at take off. Maybe some electrical tape here and there around the spring.
Ya know, I have had a cricket or two in a wall. Chirping away with the light off. But lights on, verrrrry... quiet. You try and locate that thing in the dark then hoping he's out of his hole to catch. Someone told me once, crickets were good luck. So to kill one is a bad thing with bad luck to go with it! I am not gonna kill this thing. Well after about a week or so of trying to find this doggone thing to take alive, my patience ran thin. I went for the big can of Raid along the bottom of the wall. When he was flushed out higher than a kiite, I smashed him with a shoe.
I'm DOOMED!!!

UPDATE, I changed the a/c belt tensioner today and that took care of the problem. I can now hear my Borla exhaust. If you own a C5-A4 and have a rattling kind of noise coming from under the front or middle of the car, this is the fix. The part costs $67.00 from the dealer.........

That rattling noice you describe...oh by the way, I'm glad to hear that it is gone it can be really irritating and frustrating to find...was it continuous, or did it seem to go away on accelleration? Brian

I had a noise in my house that lasted 11 years! It got nice and quite after she moved out though.

Is that how you get rid of that annoying drone that just seems to go on forever?
