I have QA1 single adjustable shocks and an adjustable Van Steel composite monoleaf in the rear of my '72 (QA1 semicoilovers in the front). The ride is excellent even with my 18" wheels! I have the shocks set to "5" and the ride is amazingly smooth, and dosen't even jar you while going over sharp bumps or railroad tracks. Haven't really gotten to test them out on a track, but no complaints during some spirited driving on the street.
Ride is much better then my '82 with the same spring, Bilistein sport shocks and 15" wheels.

Billstiens sports are hard as a rock and do not give well for road driving, I know its what I use, but I am going to switch to QA1 asjustables so that I can get a softer ride when I need one.
there is another billstien shock that is softer I do not remember the name of it though.

I have Blistens all the way around my 81 and get a terrific ride.
I also do no racing or hot rodding. It's an old car and I don't want to break it.

the semicoilovers are a bolt in deal. They're "semi"coilovers because the top of the spring sits in the spring pocket instead of the shock body.
I'm running Bilsteins all around and like it fairly well, but I don't mind a stiff ride.

Optimists think the glass is half full.
Pessimists think the glass is half empty.
Engineers realize it's twice as big as it needs to be. |

For the money I chose Bilsteins.
I also dropped my tire pressure 2 lbs. and am very happy with the results.

Best bang for the buck (my experience) KYBs, can't tell the diff between the bilsteins and the KYBs and the KYBs are third of the price. bad news is they are white not blue and yellow

I run the KYBs specially valved for the composite rear spring (330#) and I'm happy with them.
My only complaint is that when I want to spin the rears, the car just wants to launch unless I use the line loc. I guess that's a good thing though...

kyb
I have had the same issue I was running an old set of kelly springfeild radials and they would smoke a little what i call a soft launch but even with a 4500 hundred or better launch they would smoke up some but not a big showy burnout but i recently put cooper cobra gt's I now get less smoke and the car just squats and goes I noticed this when i installed the KYB's I guess its because the are gas adjust shocks and when the rear end starts to drop from weight transfer the shocks allow a little more weight to transfer to the rear of the car and by the way cooper is the only tire still made in USA to my knowledge
