Hey guys & gals
I'm on several other vette sites & it just seemed right to come over here also, so here I am.
Over the past year I've been rebuilding a 79 C3 with a video series of my triumphs (& fire). I'll be the first to admit that I'm no mechanic but with the help I get from the internet (guys like you on this site) I'm getting a lot done. My cars extra difficult to work on some times because NOTHING is stock & a Haynes book only goes so far.
its a 1979 with an 80-82 Greenwood Daytona body (styling. Flame paint, T tops, auto (probably change that to the mustang 6 speed later on). Its got a custom 400+ HP 350 circle track race motor with a custom built 800CFM RQ carb. Later I'll change the stock manifold for an edelbrock when I can find a place to shave it. I've updated the brakes with 4 cross drilled slotted rotors. The cars plagued with electrical problems but I'm starting to get somewhere with it.
Well, I guess I should back up & say that when I got the car it had a basket ball size squirrel nest in the dash & was generally FUBARed any way you looked at it mechanically (but it was pretty!) Being that my budget is well, "limited" to the average Joe & my experience is often put into perspective by statements like "that shiny thing" its taking awhile to sort through a LOT of problems. This being said, its exactly what I'm after because I'm more stubborn than a mule & I just wont quit even tho Ive been tempted at times to put a For Sale sign on it & just say F*** IT. You cant tell me you've never been there... I'm after the experience, thats the whole point for me, to learn about the car, I'm not going to let something like not knowing what I'm doing stop me from achieving my goal.
Any way, in the beginning it was just easier to tape what I was working on & get experts to stand over my shoulder & look through my yard sale camera & tell me what "that shiny thing" was & then go from there to fix it. Now Ive been doing it for over a year & have picked up a LOT of subscribers that want to not only see what will happen next but to help me succeed.
Just the other day I took footage from the last year, compressed it into 3 min & entered the ebaY SEMA video competition. (more details in another thread) Thats where I'm at today.
To view my video series they are best quality on Streetfire.net (also on YouTube & currently working the bugs out on Car Domain)
Here is a link to the ebaY SEMA video (most current & a good preview of the series) & a link to video #1 to start from the beginning & go all the way to #32. There are lots of How Tos & How Not Tos you will find useful to link to here in the threads of digitalcorvettes.
