C6 z51 vs. Grand sport

So, I have been thinking about keeping my '08 z51 vs. a new grandsport. So, I am wondering, how much would I have to spend to equal the road course performance of the GS vs. my z51 car. To get a comparable GS, I would have to spend 8k more than I did for mine (sticker to sticker- never mind negotiations and depreciation)

I figure: $2800 for the Pfadt Agressor I package, $2500 for boltons (headers, pulley, tstat) and tune, and at least 2k for 335/345s and 11 inch wheels for the rear...doesn't address braking, traction control, and wide body kit...so I would have to spend an additional...?3-4k and still not have traction control...other suggestions?

Plus, at the price of this GS, you could almost get into a 1LZ Z06...or get a very nice used one...

I havn't seen the stats but does the GS actually perform that much better than a Z51?

I have thought the very same thing. thought about trading the wifes 08...but just couldn't justify the expense. It's a shame we both didn't wait a year before buying then it would have been an easy decision...GS all the way Another nice thing about the GS is the roof/top is removeable and it is not on a ZO6 I really like driving with the top off.

Probably not much better but you get the widebody from the factory and the cool big red brakes

Luv the GS! But i wouldn't think there is any advantage between a z51 or a GS. If anything, the z51 is more aerodynamic.

there are deals out there right now on used ZO6's. In a year there will probably be some deals on low mileage Grandsports too??? decisions...decisions...decisions If the money tree out back would grow faster I could get one of each

To me , the most important thing about the GS is the dry sump . I would dump my 09 right now and pick up a GS , but I would probably take a 15-20k hit on the resale . Cant live with wasting that much money in barely a year .

Depreciation on the C6 sucks .

Drive a ZO6 for 1 hour and you will never think about the roof again.

I had 2 Z51's a C5 & C6, I would not take both of them for my ZO6!

Thats not true at all . I would be on a Z in a heartbeat if it had the targa roof , but it doesnt some I dont . Some people , myself included , love that open air feeling .

I don't think I could live without the targa...i leave the tops off all season...I have seen reports of a 2 sec improvement on the GM test track, which may just be marketing hype, and a couple tenths improvement 0-60 and 1/4 mile...makes sense with bigger, better brakes, bigger tires, stiffer suspension, and launch control but the GS gives up a little in weight, I think, over the z51 car.

Will probably just keep the 08 and put some mods on it (mods in my first post plus a procharger should let it keep up with a GS, right?!!)

spend 6500 on an installed supercharger and you'll whip a Grand sport on a road course or a drag strip..(if its important to you)

I wouldn't drop the cash on a grand sport from an 08 Z51 unless you got money to burn or you really want the wide body look...and even then I would just bolt on the fenders and buy new preowned wheels and tires..

good luck deciding...
