xpipe question

Hey guys i picked up an x pipe that's only a foot long, its designed to be welded into my cat back. I'm gonna cut out the section where the h pipe is and weld in the x pipe in its place... my question is is this a good spot.. or should i weld it in closer to the cats and leave the h section in.... i didn't want to do a full x pipe because i have a corsa exhaust and that cat back system is like 1500, i didn't want to remove any of it, its only 2 years old.

Just wanted to mention the reason i am installing an x pipe is due to the fact that I get a rattling and or annoying ping in my exhaust note, I read a few times on the forum that this is due to having an h pipe and is common on the c5.. if you switch out to an x pipe it makes the sound go away.. I was also wondering if I install the x pipe and leave the h in will i still get the gargling, pinging sound?

I would just put the x pipe where the h pipe was. There is no need to have both of them.

Having both kind of defeats the purpose of the X-pipe? I would "replace" the "H" pipe.

Live with the rattle /jingle of the H-Pipe.

I had the same issue which I resolved with a Magnaflow X-Pipe.

Lost the rattle/jingle - but also lost the aggressive bark of the exhaust which I liked.

My two cents- accept the rattle and enjoy the car and exhaust.

My exhaust is more on the quiet side than the loud side so after a while all you hear is the annoying noise.. I also have exhaust cut outs that I put in a few months ago so even with the x pipe i can enjoy an aggressive sound and adjust how loud or quiet it is, I just cant take the damn sound when they are closed. I drive with the cut outs closed about 75 percent of the time.

That's what I figured, just looking at my options for when I go put it in.

The X pipe is meant to replace the factory H pipe. Just do it!

Is it recommended ya have your engine retuned after changing out the stock exhaust system to custom (ie Corsa etc.) free'r flowing type system? Just curious. Thanks

if the car is basicly stock i wouldnt think you need a tune there are alot of sensors that look at whats going on and adjust for it.. i. e. o2 sensors.... if you have a cam heads intake and a throttle and its tuned.. then change the exhaust.. you should tune it again with the new set up

The weather in your pix looks very familiar.....hope you had a great summer, as we did up here. Previous couple of years were very wet.

Nice looking vert, looks to be the same color as the 2010 C6 the Corvette Museum is raffling off tomarrow.

Actually I like the C5s profile better. Especially with flared wheel wells front and rear. Hope to have that done someday.

no problem.. i think the c5 is the best vette so far leaving performance out of it.. looks wise and i wish i had the money to do the tiger shark body kit and flared fenders... between the fenders and body kit paint and widening my rims 4 inches each in teh rear i could buy another 98 corvette, some day it will come
