telescopic steering problem

just started restoring a 1980 vette i notice the car got tilt steering wheel but how do you know if it has telescopic,i tryed pulling the steering wheel when i pull down on the rod but just tilt i though all vettes had telescopic

There should be a lock mechanism that slides left to right on the top side of the column if were to have telesoping steering

Not all Vettes have Telescoping Steering.

The lock is a small lever that sticks up right behind the center of the steering wheel(Its more of a nub than a lever). It rotats counter clockwise to unlock, clockwise to lock.

1980 Vettes all had tilt & telescoping steering columns.

You need to rotate telescope locking lever 459083 (shown in the above blowup) counter clockwise in order to release the upper steering shaft and telescope the steering wheel.
