C5 Carbon Fiber Targa Top
What's up guys?
I am thinking to make a Carbon Fiber top SKIN replacement for the C5 Corvette.
I did the same thing with the C4 and one of our members (Mr. XQIZT) was testing it out.
Here is a thread about it
http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...ghlight=carbon
This is going to be a really fun project and it will take somewhere between 6-12 weeks.
BTW, i am a official seller here.

To get started, i need to get a C5 TOP to make THE MOLD.
Here is the DEAL.
If someone will donate his DAMAGED, SCRATCHED top, he will get a FREE Carbon Fiber SKIN on the end of this project.
Who would like to try?
Also, i can buy your damaged top.
Otherwise, i will get one from Ebay.
BTW, i am becoming a vendor member here.

SoCali's work is TOP NOTCH...and if you're handy, being his test guinea pig will make you the coolest kid on the block with the VERY FIRST Carbon Fiber Targa Top.
My top still looks GREAT.

I got a solid top I can send you.
Bought it a couple years ago and never got it painted to match my car.
Question is, this would be a total CF top not CF over fiberglass.
Interested in the weight savings.

The problem is, i do not have a C5 vette to get the correct molds.
If someone can give me his C5..... just kidding )))
I might be able to get some molds and will make some cool stuff.
My brother wants to get a C5 vette and probably, i will use his car to get some molds.

Sounds good.
NO FIBERGLASS AT ALL.
It will be a PURE 7 layers carbon fiber TOP skin.
You will need to use your OEM frame to mount it.
As about the weight. Here is an example.
C4 OEM Fiberglass top and aluminum frame ---23.1 LB
C4 Carbon Fiber top and aluminum frame---12.2 LB

That's what I'm looking for.
So I send you the whole top or just the fiberglass skin?

It needs to be the whole top, because i will need to get 2-3 different molds from it.
The first mold will be the shape of the roof
The second mold will be the jig tool which will help you to adjust the skin on the frame. Like this one i made

If the top will not be complete, i will not be able to get the right shapes
