Replacing Harmonic Balancer on a 2007 C6

On Saturday, my car started to make noise like a loose belt. When I opened the hood, I realized with a fellow corvette owner I have a wobbly harmonic balancer.

So I need to replace it as well with a new seal, belt and bolt.

My question is, what tools do I need; ie pulley remover?

Do I need to move out other components to remove it properly?

Should I let a mechanic do this?

My fellow corvette owner and I can do this but wanted to know if it is too much.

We do not have a lift so the car will be put in the air with low profile ramps.

All responses are greatly appreciated.

Happy 4th of July.

I'm not sure on the 07's but on the o5's the steering rack needs to come out. It can be a pain in the ass. You should also see if the warranty covers it. Good luck.

How certain are you regarding the item covered under the warranty?

I am curious.

I am going to call the dealership.

I'm not an engine expert (although we have a few here) but I don't think a harmonic balancer is a wear item. So it should be covered. If you don't get the answer you want from the dealer, I would make a followup call with GM customer service.

IF the dealer doesn't help you GM customer service will call them direct or find you another dealer around your area. If your car is stock it should be covered under warranty.

harmonic blanacer fixed by dealer

I would have replied sooner but I had a family crisis.

The dealer fixed the harmonic balancer for free. Also replaced the bolt and seal for free.

The strange thing is when I look at the harmonic balancer, the bolt is not perfectly centered. I thought all bolts on a pulley system must be centered; no visible wobble.

Thanks for those who replied and gave me some guidance.

Have a great day...
