New member - First two kills!
Hello all, I'm a new Corvette owner and a college kid. I recently bought a stock 1992 6-spd with 100k and it runs awesome! I'm a huge car enthusiast and there is nothing better than a vette, truly in a class of its own.
Anyways, to the story. I was cruising around at night in my car and my brother was with me in his stock eclipse (non-turbo), and we were looking for some ricers to feed on for a nice midnight snack We saw a bunch of cars in a parking lot and repeatedly drove by them in order to get their attention, sure enough a Mazdaspeed 3 comes flying out and starts chasing me! I've heard those are pretty fast and was worried my old Corvette might have lost a step over the years, but when he pulled up next to me of course I accepted the challenge to race
We were on a wide perfectly straight road, two lanes each side with a center lane as well. There were no cars on the road, I would never race if there was. I did the "3 beeps" thing at around a 35mph roll, but since I'm a n00b I went AFTER the 3rd beep (kinda like 3..2..1..Go!) and he obviously floored it ON the last beep, jumping a car length ahead. Were even in first gear, then I shifted to 2nd and started catching up and passed him right as I shifted to 3rd. In 3rd, it was all over, I pulled away pretty quickly and slowed down around 85mph. Woo!
We pulled into the parking lot and the kid in the Mazda was shocked when I told him I was stock, he thought I was supercharged! his friend with an srt-4 wanted to race me so we went on the freeway. Same roll, same result. I pulled slightly in 2nd and then really took off in third, I think he missed a shift so we raced again. I sort of felt bad this time so I started in 2nd from a 33mph roll, under my power range. We gunned it (well he gunned it first) and were even for a couple of seconds as my rpm's rose. I heard him shift into second and thought it was funny because I was already in 2nd. Again I pulled away in third gear. Two kills my first night!
After the runs we all gave thumbs up, they were cool guys and it was an overall good time, but I'm proud to come out on top and represent Corvettes
btw it was sort of scary being my first time racing, but I'll get used to it

Welcome to DC and be careful. They go fast real quick. I find that third gear in these cars is awesome.

Why do they call it "common sense" when, in fact, it has become so uncommon?
That's my opinion, it outta be your's. |

They surprisingly didn't do the classic flyby, they just turned off the highway and left.
I'm in college for mechanical engineering so hopefully I'll be able to design my own car parts someday!

I should forward this link to a guy at work who swears his little Mazda Speed 3 is the shit. He won't come out and say he can beat me but he's constantly harrassing another guy we work with who has 2010 or so Mustang GT.

I actually raced a mustang GT the other day on the highway, one of the ones with roughly 315 horsepower (05-10), and judging by that race I think a matchup between the mazda and mustang gt would come down to the drivers. If they race, let me know how it goes please!
Oh and if it's one of the new 5.0 mustangs forget it, it won't be close. I wouldn't want to race one of those haha, they move
