C6 battery life??

Two years ago, my wife and I drove west for a Route 66 road trip. Stopped at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and returned to our car to find a dead battery. Wouldn't even begin to turn over the engine but radio, etc worked. Got a jump and drove to a Pep Boys (it was Sunday wouldn't you know) and got a new battery and on the road again. That two year old battery gave no hint it was going bad. Started perfect up until the last attempt. Well, two years later.....today.....got in the car to come to work and battery dead except for low power stuff like radio. Started perfectly last night with never a slowdown. I'm just wondering if two years is all I can expect from a battery in the C6? The car is driven every day, so I guess there is a fair amount of electrical wear and tear. But I wish it would give me a little warning so I could drive it somewhere before it dies. Had to jump start my El Camino to get to work today - and leaving for Grand Cayman for 10 days early tomorrow. It will probably have to wait for me to get back to replace it. Grrrrrrrr.

Your battery should last much longer than that. Using it everyday is a plus; the alternator recharges it.

I don't use my 2006 everyday, but keep a battery tender on it. I got a new battery after 5 years, even though the original still seemed good.

I think you may have a battery drain somewhere. Something is draining juice from your battery when it's not in use, maybe an interior light, or something like that.

On another subject, I've been to the Balloon Fiesta and the Mass Ascension is awesome.

Driving everday doesn't suffice, do you drive long enough to recharge the battery?

If you do short trips, I would put it on a tender now and then.

Also, if you buy a cheapo crap battery it won't last long

It seems if I had a slow drain there would be a time when I would get a sluggish start or some other clue. Both times it has gone from full-power start to nothing. I have always heard this means a shorted cell in the battery or something internal. The battery I bought at Pep Boys was one of their best - I think I paid well over $100 for it (I was on the road and beggars can't be choosers ).

As for the Balloon Fiesta, I've been twice and it is the most fantastic photo op I have ever experienced, bar none.

I drove my '08 home from Bowling Green in Sept of
'07.

My battery died 2 weeks ago, lasted 5 years. It was dead as a door knob and very swollen.

I replaced it with a Optima gel battery ($240). It's a much better looking battery, I will see if the hype is true.

I got one of those gel cells about three years ago. Left charger for the phone plugged into the accessory plug under the center console arm rest and left for my usual every other month away, and I came back and the gel cell was dead. It had about 1.5 volts when I took it off of the car. I happen to have a battery conditioner (because my vehicles don't like my job) and I was able to bring it back from the dead.

I've had my c6 4 years this September and my battery is still going strong. I even play my radio and music on my iphone while parked waiting on my wife while she is shopping with no weak startups. I don't have a battery charger of any kind either. I am almost sure you must have a drain somewhere that you are obviously not aware of.

My .02 cents worth.
I recommend buying the Duracell, from Sam's Club. I have had to replace my battery 3 times in the almost 5 years I have had my C4. I have not paid more than $1.50 each time for a new replacement.
If the battery is less than 3 years old, Sam's club will replace it free of charge. The $1.50 each time is like a core charge (more like a nuisance charge).

And the first time this happened, mind you, the battery was what came with the car when I bought it. With the first failure, I got a jump start to bring it home, and left it in the home garage. A few days later, while out shopping with the wife, I happened to be in Sam's, and noticed they carry the same brand battery (Excide) I had in the 'vette. The guy said bring it in and they will take a look at it. The Date-Code was within the three years, and they replaced it free without any receipt or proof of purchase. I thought that was cool.

Also, for a technical explanation, for you in Texas as with me in south Florida; heat is the worst enemy with respect to battery life.

Well, mine almost made it 5 years, 6 days from its birthday. Never had any issues until I let it sit for 6 months this winter. That is the longest I have ever let it sit. We will see if this one makes it 5 years.
