Cain calls for third party
Yeah, that't the ticket. Take a party that can get 49% of the vote and turn it into two parties that can each get 25%. Now there's a strategy to have influence. The number of Democrats who would be involved in this is miniscule.
Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is calling for the creation of a third political party — saying it is clear to him that neither major political party is willing to address the nation’s economic problems.
“We need a third party to save this country,” Cain told American Family Radio host Bryan Fischer. “This country is in trouble and it is clear that neither party — is going to fix the problems we face.”
Cain agreed with Fischer’s assessment that conservatives are growing tired of being ignored by Republican party leadership — and that many believe the GOP no longer speaks for them.
Cain said it was troubling that Mitt Romney received fewer votes than John McCain did in 2008 — suggesting that many conservatives did not vote on Tuesday.
“I don’t believe the Republican Party has the ability to rebrand itself against the mainstream media machine that blatantly works to support this president and other liberals as well as the Democrats,” Cain told the radio host.
Cain said it would take money, leadership and at least 50 coalitions to create a viable third political party.
“You need one for every state because of the whacky rules state by state that they have that make it difficult for a third party to emerge,” he said.
He said the new party could be made up of not only disenfranchised Republicans — but also Democrats.
“There are just as many disgruntled Democrats would probably be a part of this movement as there are Republicans — who are sick of the political class,” Cain told American Family Radio. “Realistically, it is more viable today than it has ever been.”

It may be less about the country moving left and more so low turnout for conservatives. From what I've seen, Romney received lower registered Pub turnout than McCain did in 2008. The conservatives stayed home this year.

I think Libertarians could build a viable third party if they could combine small government conservatives (lower my taxes and stay out of my church/business/school/energy/property/healthcare) and small government liberals (lower my taxes and stay out of my drugs/bed/uterus/race/world-peace). If these people could truly RESPECT FREEDOM and agree to LIVE AND LET LIVE together they could be an influential group. I've always thought I was a conservative Republican. But more and more I can't stand the Republican party and I don't care if people live however they want to because none of us is god. So I guess I'm Libertarian. But I'm still no damn Democrat, lol.

Good ol' Herman,... so that's what's been twirling around in his head.
I've been hoping the Libertarians could build something too, but I have a feeling that It'd just get hi-jacked by washington insiders and lobbyist. I guess when the people truly get enough, only then will things change. I don't see that happening for a very, very long time.

Tuesday was an indictment of the GOP. 14 million fewer GOP voters turned out for Romney, than turned out for McCain.
Well, at least the moderates got what they wanted, an "electable" candidate.

We need a third party like we need the clap. What we need is both parties work together as americans first and politicans second. People like Cain need to shut their traps.

What it is is an idictment of of the voters who were such babies, they wouldn't even lift a finger to keep the most liberal president since FDR out of office. I get it that the far right doesn't like moderate candidates. But their claims that there is no difference in a moderate Republican and Obama are delusional. This was simply a right wing hissy fit that will beat hundreds of millions of people down for decades. Well done, Tea Party. Thank you for my Obamacare.
