Y Pipes

Hi Fellas
Can anyone tell me if a 91 Y Pipe will fit my 90 Coupe.Car is L98. I have spotted one on Ebay which seems to be reasonably priced, but the vendor says it is for a 91 only.Item number 110606567954.

FWIW, the part suppliers sell 86-91 front y-pipes as one item. Contact the seller to see why the item is listed that way to be sure.

Hi. I already did and what they said is "only listed as 91". I agree with what you said about 86-91 fitting, but need to be sure.

As long as it is from L98 then it should fit with no issues. Lately I have come across two very late 91 vetes with lt1 and they were never swapped ( original engine ). Dont know why that is , They should be 92 at the earliest but all numbers matched and came back to very late 91. This would be the only reason I could think of that seller would say 91 only. Hope this helps.

I,m constantly amazed at the guys that seem to be limited in what they do,to their cars, by what some catalog suggests is the only option you have, available, the truth is that you can fabricate or modify a great many components to fit your car that are not
"OFF THE SHELF COMPATIBLE"
nearly anything in exhaust pipe, transmission supports mufflers etc, can be fairly easily modified to fit or a complete exhaust can be fabricated if you have some basic skills and a decent mig or tig welder or even an oxy-acetolene torch.

once you stop thinking that your only option is parts listed as direct bolt on replacements youll find a great many more parts can be made to fit your car very easily.

Well thanks guys for your answers. Having looked at some of the suppliers there,Zip,Ecklers,Summit etc. All seem to list up to 91! Seems like I was slightly missquoted when told 91 only. So I will take the chance and order tomorrow.

I don't think it's that people don't realize the can make/modify parts to fit. It's more a lack of necessary tools, work space and/or time.

yes I know several people that just don,t want to either get involved or lack the tools ,and skills or desire to learn those skills, or acquire the required tools.
now from my point of view a great deal of the satisfaction I get from owning and driving a performance car, is in knowing I built or can repair or modify most of the components that make it work, and if I don,t have the required tools or skills I make it a priority to acquire them.it would be difficult to over stress how important having the correct tools and the skill to use them are on modifying parts, frankly I can,t imaging a shop without some basics like a couple welders and a drill press and a belt sander, air compressor
and die grinders etc.
yes I freely admit Ive spent much more on tools, my shop and gaining those skills and tools and that shop than it would have cost to have someone else build me the car Im still working on, but owning a car that someone else builds rather pointless in my opinion, anyone with a big bank balance could do that

Hi Guys. Just want to comment on modding parts for our cars. the last time I bought a Y Pipe was several years ago for the same car. It was a pattern make because GM dont make them any more. Anyway, because it wasn't original,I had to do some jumping on it.It ran way too low on the car and the mufflers were hitting the rear panel. The Y Pipe was also just a little short, and still is, but gives no trouble..So, I think somewhere I will maybe have to do a little work on this one as well!
