T-top storage while driving

Were the T-top "bags" that all the vendors sell what came with our early C3's to store the tops while driving? What is the proper way to store the tops IN the car while driving?

I had two late model C3's back in the 70's. The cars came with vinyl covered cloth bags to put the T-Tops in and they fit into the storage compartment behind the seats, if that's what you are asking.

Yes, just curious if that was how they were "supposed" to be stored while driving. I guess they stack on top of each other in the bad since there's not enough room for them to be side by side?

It's been over 30 years, but if my memory serves me correctly, they did stack behind the seats.

The "bags" that the suppliers sell today are similar, but not the same as OEM bags. The OEM bags were cloth on the inside and vinyl on the outside with snaps to keep them closed. The newer style are softer vinyl without the inner cloth and they have velcro to keep them closed.

To store, they laid flat in the back on top of each other. There was a set of straps with clasps that held them down from moving.

That said, mine usually stay at home in the garage. I removed the straps from the car when I redid the carpet. I also added a custom sub box, so the tops now have to stand up straight behind the seats when stored.

Yeah, I forgot about the straps, and I remember that the snaps were kind of hard to engage, but pushing hard on them put you in danger of scratching the paint finish. It was kind of a pain to deal with, but if you were careful, it worked.

When I bought my 73 the bags came with the car.. Mine has the Cloth inside and snaps... But I hardly use them when I drive I leave them in the Garage.. That wont damage them and Someone cant Steal the Tops too. Good To See you Tx Dentist.. He Seen my Car at car show Great Guy and Great Son too.

I believe they sat at a slight angle in the back with the straps in place. The owners manuals should show it in there.
