Penn's dad, and it seems a shame that this type of "blacklisting"
was done then (I was 2yrs old), as it mentioned Ronald
Reagan in the story, you have to lean with Sean, as far as

You can't look at 1955 through 2012 eyes. At that time, the country believed there was a high chance of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, and it was believed that the Soviets had spies embedded in every important area of American culture. People were simply very afraid. Now, McCarthyism and the culture that caused these Hollywood blacklists were as un-American and wrong as you can get. But people accepted it because of fear. It's easy to criticize now, but if you can place yourself in a position where you actually think that any day, nuclear bombs will rain down on your cities, you might begin to understand the feelings most Americans had. Thankfully, the guys like McCarthy who were using this fear for a personal power play were eventually outed, and America did some soul searching. I believe we came out of this terrible time a better country because we saw the worst side of our nature. As for Chavez, he is no better than McCarthy. He uses the hate that the masses have for the rich to confiscate what the rich have, and spreads enough of the bounty around to keep the masses voting for him while he lives like a king on the remainder. I sense our country is moving in the same direction. Just because someone can continue to get elected democratically doesn't mean he is a good person or good for his country. Recent example: Morsi in Egypt. He is going to turn that country into an Islamist country and anyone who lives there who is not an Islamist or who doesn't want Islamist rule will likely be killed or run out.

Ever wonder why the majority of those on "The list" were of a particular ethnic/religious group? People accepted it much the same way the German people accepted what Hitler did. I think you missed the point. The correlation was not between McCarthyism and the liberal media but rather prejudice towards a certain ethnic/religious group who is percieved to control the media.

Personally, I worry about the Douchbag's at home that affect ME. I could care less about Chavez, or others that "some" want me to hate. Nice "slight of hand" trick,... emotion will always be your worse enemy. While FNC has you hating someone that has never affected your life, you and your kids futures are being stolen right from under your noses. Simply put, hate blinds!

So many people in the U.S. spent their lives "hating" or disliking other groups of people, for whatever reason.. race, sex, religions etc. They blindly feared and hated others and even believed that they were somehow better that those groups. Fear and hate is what the Pundits and the political parties push to blindside you. Now those sorry bastards are out of a job, home...and many have even lost their cars, and waiting in the same food lines.

Some of them now realize that they're nooooo better than the next man or woman, regardless of race, sex, religion, orientation etc.... and some have learned who they should really hate.

So keep watching FNC and getting your instructions on who to hate or dislike...perhaps it'll be you (not you personaly..generalizing) waiting in the unemployment or food line.

Has he done a lot of bad things, YES! However, things that are happening at home are much more important to me. There are literally HUNDREDS of villians here at home for you to put your interest in...rather than some guy thousands of miles away, who has no way to impact your future.

What many don't want to see, is that Race and Ethnicity is at the core of almost every policy... foreign and domestic. That's just the way it's always been. Name an "all white country" that we've bombed or went to war with recently?

Lol, it's always been the browns, blacks, reds and yellows who are considered the savages and barbarians, even though the actions of the Monarchy's and Empires that have ruled the world for centuries have show to be just that... barbaric and evil. You can try to "cherry pick" history, but it won't work. Way too many facts that are known, and many more coming to light every day.

Fact it, there's a lot of "UGLY" under the surface, but the great majority refuses to acknowlege it... and never will.

As for Sean Penn, whether you like him or not, he's expressing a "Right" that we all have. Democracy is easy when you agree, but the real test of Democracy is when you don't agree. Not you Per se', but when people want to silence you, it shows that they are not Democractic. Funny how so many "talk" about democracy, but few practice it.
