Turn Off The News
TURN OFF THE NEWS.......
Morgan Freeman's brilliant take on what happened yesterday :
"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
...
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news

.... and many have said the same thing for well over a decade now, but with the "bottom-line" being the only thing that matter's in this country, this is the result. Sensationalism sells, and it sells big! Add to it the fact that everything "media-wise" run's 24/7, it's a recipe and a setup for the next disaster.
There's really so many factors and imho, has nothing to do with video games or movies, but mostly the breakdown in family, lax or bad parenting skills, prescription drug and alcohol use and abuse, and the fact that men in particular lack the necessary skills to solve problems and deal with adversity without violence. Even on many forums, I've seen many all of sudden want to escalate a debate, simply because they were "best'ed" in a debate.
Part of the parenting issues have to deal with both parents working and having strangers raise their children. Most children won't say it, but they tend to feel that the parents are choosing work and "stuff" (big house, 2 cars etc.) over them, which slowly instill's a sense of worthlessness and inadequacy. They often feel betrayed and lash out by bullying, stealing, drug and alcohol abuse and violence. Often times there's violence and abuse in the house as well, but that's always the family secret. Nothing will change unless the family unit is fixed.

I know it will never happen, but if they televised dumping that worthless shooters body in a septic tank, as a final resting place it might do some good reducing the "GLAMOR" some potential copy cat nut case sees in doing something similar in the future

Sad but true.
within three days of the batman movie theater shooting we knew more about the shooter, his life, etc. than we currently know about the president of the United States.

When are people and the news Medea going to quit talking about the weapon and how it was allowed to kill those children, and get to what caused the person holding it(The person that killed the Children.) to do what they did. Thats where they need to put their money and their mouths, and help solve the problems that really caused this young man to do such a thing. They may not like what they find. Could it be the news Medea and the people talking are part of the problem and not part of the answer. (If the shoe fits wear it. If not then forget the action and start looking for what the young mans problem was, and find a way to correct that.)
Just one old mans opinion.

I see the save the world gun control idiots have shown their stupidity, and shot them self in the foot(pun intended.).
With all there yelling about the need to keep guns from killing people with control. they spooked John Q. Citizen into action. Gun sales hit an all time record high yesterday. In the wake of Obama's " vowing to take action to address gun violence ".
The numbers show public opinion. So why does our government keep trying to press this upon us.
Just one old Veterans opinion...

I've seen a lot of things in my little time here on earth but one thing that I have NEVER, EVER seen is a gun just walk up to someone and shoot them, rob a bank or do a car jacking. If one did, I'd be all for banning guns.
That ain't happening folks.

It's too bad Morgan didn't say that....I just read on MSN that his publicist was quoted as saying Mr. Freeman never posted that statement.
But it's a great idea....instead of remembering the gunman, remember the kids' names!

...also in addition to my previous post, another very important aspect is mental health. Why mental health isn't a part of our general medical care is mind-boggling to me. Imagine going to a car shop because your car isn't running right, and they check everything except the engine. Most of who have health care generally get at least 2 physicals a year, yet the brain, which run's everything is never looked at.... at least not until it's too late and a judge have mandated that someone see's a psychologist.
I'm a gun rights advocate, but there's no way that we'll keep those rights if the root cause's behind these incidents aren't researched and dealt with...especially if shootings continue at this pace. We can't just sit here and say, hang the perps, or throw them in septic tanks (though I feel ya),...we have to push to have the root causes's investigated. Imho, a lot of the violence in our society would be reduced if mental health was part of general medical care.

I hear You & understand your point(s).
There is more.
A lack of or NO Moral standards embedded in an individual some key point in their lives.
Very likely early childhood years.

Dumping Human Waste in one bodily package is a great idea Grumpy. Septic Tank.
Swamps would work too.
Let the Gators feast on them.
But I am sure you would not want them in Florida.
Too many problems like Illinois here.

Its the greatest fear the wife & I have current.
My 2 year old son becomes a shooting victim from some POS human waste with no backbone 1st to jump in front a moving Semi truck on Interstate Route 80 at 80 MPH & take his life only.
God Keep all our children safe & let them grow up & live to old age ( 70+).
