Thanks Chris! Terrific find!!! As always. What material do you think that is? It doesn't look like carbon fiber to me.

I just don't get it! they still have a B-pillar but try to make it look like there is no b-pillar, but ruin rear visibility at the same time...with those tiny quarter windows are pointles..
Thanks for the pick Cris.... i think that all hope is lost! The design team completely FUBAR'ed it !

Mmmmm... Here's a pic of the same part for a C5. Haven't found a pic of the C6 part yet, but that part should be similar to the C5's:

Quote from the original poster:

"Well sorry about the pics being removed. GM threatened to take legal action against me even though they have no real legal basis for it. But I would rather not deal with fighting a huge cooperation over such petty things. Apparently if I hadn't labeled the parts of the Flickr account I would have been fine. Oh well."

If you think about it, there is an amazing amount of design effort that goes into a part such as this - and no one even sees the part once the car is assembled.

Yes, much more complicated and clearly heavier (if same material as it appears to be) than the basket handle design.I know glass is heavy, but after seeing this, I wonder if the new design really is any lighter - this piece plus the side glass - than the C5 / C6 type of design.

The C5 & C6 hatch designs enabled thinner rear glass than was necessary for the C4.

The C5/C6 part looks dainty by comparison. I'm wondering if it's heavier as well. It certainly looks that way.

That's why earlier on in the post I asked Chris if he knew material they used for this.

Seems strange to make a part heavier than the "old" model's part (even if it's over the rear wheels)

This is unbelievable when compared to that C5/C6 part. And this is at the highest point of the car so that would detract from good handling... just what were they thinking? Oh i know, They were thinking if they make the car heavier and slower, it will make the Porshe look like a better deal !
