exhaust question

so I just bought a c5 with lt's into o/r x to straight pipes. does anyone know if i can just get some cats welded in for emissions testing? and would i need cats in the x and mufflers or would one or the other work? or would it be cheaper to buy new setup? just weighing my options and trying to learn so i dont go to an exhaust shop with no knowledge as to what i can do or ask for. school me on exhaust setups please.

I saw on your other post you have BBK Long Tube headers. The previous owner might have put in a BBK X-Pipe with no cats to mufflers. It would be loud. Also when you get inspetion do they put the sniffer in the tail pipe or just plug into the car under the dash?

they check for smoke and excessive noise as well as do the diagnostic check. i mainly want to quiet it down but i still want it a little loud and deep. theres no mufflers, straight tubing all the way back, its seriously loud... i cant believe i havent been pulled over yet.

If your exhaust is bolted together, and those are BBK LT headers, that link I posted with the catted X-Pipe from BBK will bolt right up. The cats with straight pipes might quiet it down enough? You might end up having to get a set of mufflers? If you like loud, check out Borla Stingers.

If you want to avoid putting cats on keep the straight pipes then put on a set of mufflers. I am running no cats to Borla touring mufflers on my 05'. It is not that loud at idle. Cruising gets a bit loud, with a lot more drone than running cats. It is probably half the drone you have with your straight pipes. When I stomp on it; it’s LOUD. I did pass the sound check at inspection. If you do decide to run no cats, I would run one of the quieter mufflers. No cats and mufflers such as Borla Stingers will put you in the same position.
