Ammo Shortage

My brother in law has been complaining about not being able to find any 223 since the Holidays. I knew there was a run on ammo, but figured it was primarily on the full auto stuff. Yesterday, I went to my local gun store to pick up some 22LR for plinking with my kids. None on the shelf! In fact most of the 38, 9mm, and even rifle ammo was gone. Headed over to Walmart, same story. So I headed over to Cabelas. They always have a shit load! Right? When I got to Cabelas I was astounded. Not only was 99% of ALL the ammo gone, so were most of the used guns they normaly have for sale in their cabinets. Now I was just there about 3 weeks ago when I picked up a 1911. They were super busy, but had lots of ammo. Now...the store was practically empty of customers, the ammo was pretty much gone. The shelves looked like a Kmart store in the last days of a going out of business sale. No hand gun ammo other than a load of 9mm that had just come in and even the HD shotgun shells were gone. All they had was about 25% of their normal stock bird shot.

Today I see this. Even the police are running out!

According to the sales guy at Cabelas, the ammo manufacturers produce quantity based on quota. What ever they sold last year, they raise production buy 5% or so and produce that amount. Each size of ammo is produced in bulk. They set the entire factory up to produce one size of ammo at a time and produce X amount. They then strip the machines and set up for another size...etc.

So now that the run has used up all the stock in the warehouses, the retailers have to wait for the manufacturers to convert their equipment back to what ever size is needed and produce more. Manufacturer estimated production has already been sold out!

Walmart told me they expect to start receiving shipments in April. Cabelas says their warehouse is empty and don't expect new shipments anytime soon. Could be 6 months or more?

At Cabelas, even the reload supplies were pretty much gone.

Went to my favorite range/gun store today with a friend to give some basic safety and handling lessons. Wants some self protection now. We were limited to one box of ammo for each weapon we were going to fire.

Shelves were almost bare, but business has been brisk. Gun shop owners, although they benefit initially, do not like this situation at all, it will temporarily hurt them until this madness dies down.

Good point! Guns are useless with out ammo.

No ammo = no use guns = no sales = hurt business.
Especially for a range.

Probably because the gov't bought enough last year to put 3 in every man, woman and child in this country.

And none of it was for the military..

Reduce the population for what reason?
By the way...it's been 4 years and none of the things everyone was afraid of came to be...and in 4 more years, he's out. Then what?

You tell me, I didn't make the purchase. I also didn't purchase the hardened checkpoint booths. But I do believe that the reason they shut down so many kids lemonaid stands is because they plan on using the booths for their own gov't sponsored lemonaid stands and they don't want competition.

Can you come up with a good reason as to why the gov't would purchase 1.4 billion rounds, a few months before they make a push for guns? I mean really.. unprecedented ammo purchase, supplying guns to Mexican cartels, telling us our guns are the problem with lunatics killing people in target rich environments..

I'm sure the gov't is always looking out for our best interest..

I didn't make the purchase either and I sure as hell don't have any conspiracy theories swirling around my head. So...you....tell....me. It doesn't make ANY sense that the government wants its citizens dead. NONE.

If they reduce the population , that much easier to control the non elites like you and me.
Not my theory.
