Thanks for the name drop bud.
Here are some older pics I took with a bad digital camera back in the day. I can go out and take some better pics if you like.
First, I used a set of '98 Durango transmission cooler brackets because I wanted something strong and light to extend upward on the hood to take all of the pressure the compressed gas shock puts out. I figured over time, the pressure of the shock would stress or stretch the fiberglass or fasteners.
I welded on a tab for the ball stud...these came off of the LS Camaro rear hatch brackets...since the shocks were from an LS Camaro rear hatch.
I uses some angle iron, and came up with a set of brackets that bolt over the hood hinges where they bolt to the body. They use the stock hardware and do not interfere with hood fit. I drilled 3 holes for the lower ball stud so I could adjust the open height. I chose the middle hole but going either direction will either lower the raised height or take it higher...or more open.
The hood brackets basically stretch up the hood. They bolt over the hood hinge where they bolt to the hood and can use stock hardware and do not affect the alignment. I drilled holes in the hood matching the holes in the bracket, and used well nuts, screws, and adhesive, to hold the brackets...which I bent slightly to match the hood arch...to stay tight and close to the hood.
I have had these in place...on and off a few times, for a LONG time now and they still act and operate perfectly. The best part is the gas shock is a common and easily found type and style so I don't have to worry with it becoming obsolete.
