Nice video. At 56 seconds you can see in the background the progression of the Stingray and Corvette emblems, and also a stealth bomber.

In other places you can see myriad illustrations of interior and exterior design. It's clear they thought about everything and didn't merely copy Camaro or anything else.

For those compelled to sing the tired song about designers copying the viper, GT-R, Camaro or whatever...see my earlier post about originality and the narrow window for the marriage of form and function.

I think Longtimer mentioned that TJ said there was no exterior design clinic. Yet Car and Driver magazine specifically call out the issue and state that a corvette enthusiast suggested that the rear-end had not really changed in 25 yrs.

It all goes down to the eyes of the beholder. If someone wants to see a copy will see, if someone wants to see an original design will see that.
Either way is right.

Firstly if you want to have success you have to blend some elements (design cues) that are (what a surprise in the F12, GTR, Supra, Passat CC, Camaro, R8 etc) Like a wise designer used to say if you need to rob something - rob a bank instead of a grocery store.

Secondly I'm not in engineering, but maybe there is a reason why some of these cars share some elements (if they do). You see in Japan design philosophy is very very simple. If there is a correct way then they will adopt it. If there are two ways, they will take the simple one.

And before we go on, how come nobody asked why is that the taillights of the GTR look like this Oo oO?
If talk about copying - now who copied who?

The four circular taillights on the Skyline can be traced back to the 1972 C110 Skylines. The inspiration for those can only be guessed at now.
