Is there a data plate that idenfies the original color of my car?

I am trying to determine the original color of my 1981 L81. Is there a data plate that on the car that tells me? Thanks

The plate you're speaking of 'should' be on the driver's side door jamb up under the A-pillar.

Open the driver's door. You're looking for a tag like this one for Bowling Green built cars. 81s assembled in St. Louis have a slightly different tag, but in the same location.

Factory codes for exterior paint and interior trim colors will be on the tag.

"Dark" is not a color. If your car is two toned silver, you will see codes 33 for the bright silver and 39 for the dark silver for 81s and 13 and 39 for 82s.

The first code on that line of the tag is interior trim color. Leather interior was standard. A code with a C indicates the buyer chose the cloth trim.

Here's a bit of trivia for you: all the two toned car were first painted entirely in the upper color. After that coat was baked, the second color was applied.

You may want to contact the National Corvette Museum and see if you can obtain a copy of the build schedule for your car.
https://store.corvettemuseum.com/ser...buildsheet.asp The build schedule will list all the options on your car, colors, assembly date, original dealer, etc. Nice to have if the NCM has your VIN in their records.

Tom Russo's new books explains the ins and outs of the build schedule. http://www.amosauto.com/Articles/Cor...uildsheet-book
